I’m trying to find a used 2019 33” Meta Prime. I’ve seen them priced anywhere from $800-3000! Holy cow! I didn’t mind shelling out the cash for the new 2020 Meta and really wouldn’t have a problem spending close to that for a used one, but who spends a grand or more on a used bat? What happens if you buy it and then it later gets de-certified?

Why would you pay a high price for a metal bat? Any important event, showcase or tournament that college coaches will evaluate you will use wood bats. Exit velo is measured with a wood bat. So what point is there to pay a lot for a metal bat... to hike up your HS stats? Serious question.
Good question. My son used wood last summer and fall but everyone used metal for HS so that’s what we bought. The funny thing is he likes the wood bat he used this summer better than his Meta. I would prefer he use metal in HS so it reduces the chances of breaking his bat. But I’ve seen far fewer busted wood bats than I expected.
Get on the notifications list for the new Demarini The Goods for when they come back in stock. My son went from a 2019 Meta Prime to the black The Goods over the summer. He loves the bat. A few of his teammates went out and got one as well.
The 2021 the Goods is in stock on the Demar website. Looks like the only difference is the paint

The Goods is a more of an end loaded bat and the Meta is more of a balanced bat. I wouldn't assume that The Goods would be the right bat as they will have different swing feel. Also, The Goods is an alloy barrel bat and the Meta is composite. The Meta will have a longer barrel and a larger effective sweet spot. Lots to consider.
The Indian is more important than the arrow.

The 2020 was decertified and not legal for play

My son’s first hitting coach used to laugh and say that $300 bat ain’t gonna fix that $2 swing.
This may be my Captain Obvious moment but did he try the bat and do any comp measurables? I know feel is a big factor in the equation, but for the cost and effort there should be some quantifiable metric for your player and not the testimony of some 6'2 225 lb daddy hacking web opiner.

I didn’t know that😐 If the 2020 is decertified, and it’s supposed to be very similar to the ‘19, I would stay away, especially to the tune of >$800. Fall in love with a different bat.
I am surprised that Dick’s is selling a decertified bat.

Only the 33" was decertified. They aren't selling that length

My son has a 32 right now and really likes it. He used a 33 wood all summer and hit great. Now I would say that is more due to the new coach he's been working with than the bat, but I'd like to pick up a 33 since he seems to be comfortable with that length. My first thought was to grab a used 2019 Meta since the 2020 was banned, but those prices were nuts. I've been told the Marucci Cat series has a similar feel and they are way cheaper.
FWIW, I'm not saying I am even considering spending that amount of dough on a used bat (or any bat), but I thought it was an interesting topic.
My son has the 2020 Meta in the 34" and it's a good bat, but no way would I shell out that much cash for a "hot" bat......
Exhibit B whats wrong with this game now.
My kid prefers to hit with the Victus axe. I got lucky on eBay and grabbed 32in 2 1/2 years ago for about $100 but he needed 33 and I got it for $160 with a 20% coupon code. That one lasted 1.5 seasons before an evil cutter made it firewood. I begrudging bought another new for about $200 since there was no coupon or used available. Now he wants 33.5...my wallet is grumbling
Not sure if you thought of this but, what turn wood bad has he been using. It is possible that he was using a wood bat with a higher MOI than what a balanced bat would provide. If so, a metal bat with "some" end load may be a better choice and give him some room to grow. If it will be used for HS, (not sure where you are from) he might not see the higher pitching speeds he has seen over the summer, which would lesson the need of a faster bat speed, and by using the some end loaded bat, could give him some extra power.
Note: Just a thought, I don't know his size or strength.
Take a look at the prices for the green -5 CF Zen. It is crazy. My son had a broken one (the cap cracked from the inside and ended up flying off). I had someone offer me $300 for it in hopes of having a third party put a replacement cap on it.
