Son was tagged as a student athlete for admission at a DII school. To date, he has been admitted to every school but this particular one. It is his number one choice. He's talked to the coach and coach told him don't worry as long as you meet admission requirements (he does) your in. My question is do they admit tagged students first or will we just have to be patient? He was really hoping for his admission to be his Christmas present. Happy Holidays.

What does being tagged as a student athlete mean ? I wouldn't worry if the coach tells you he is in. They have a lot of pull especially if your son meets requirements. The only D11 we were interested in made my son get accepted before they gave him the scholly anounts. The coach made us put the app in through him and waived all the fees. Once my son had his student ID the offer was made showing both BB and academic money. It was the largest offer we got but it was also the most expensive college. We ended up turning it down because it didn't meet many of my son's wish list. Great academic college.

I too am not sure what "tagged" means. IMO, if he hasn't been officially accepted yet, I would continue looking hard and closer to his 2nd and 3rd choices. Sometimes those schools turn out to be where they go afterall. Why? Sometimes the coach has enough players at your son's position, funding, etc.

I understand he would've like to have been admitted by Christmas but you have an awesome opportunity here to teach him about patience and weighing other options. One thing he (and you) will learn rather quickly is that these college coaches don't move at the speed we always want them to!

Merry Christmas and good luck!
My understanding of tagged student from the coach is that he tagged my son's application and that as long as he meet admission requirements he would be admitted. Housing is an issue at the school and I would like to put his request in as early as I can. Everything is in line but the actual admittance. You're right about teaching patience, it's definately not Mom's strong suit. Yes, there will be a small baseball scholarship but it will not be substantial enought to count in the equation.
That is what I thought. The D11 we applied to we didn't even talk to admissions. The coach told us he would take care of everything. I actually called once and the coach barked at me to go through him. The acceptance came by email and a mailed copy. The coach then told me what he was offering as a BB and academic package. It was our largest offer and they were the only college that actually saw my son pitch. They had a roving scout who knew my son well. The college tuition and room and board was over $34,000.
I think the reason the coach did everything was because there was competition for spots in the classes and he wanted to make sure my son got a spot. That is my guess.

As you know most D1 players for early signing aren't accepted until the spring. The app which came after the NLI was flagged or tagged "baseball". We were told not to worry as he met all requirments or he wouldn't have been given the NLI.
I understand your concerns, but it is not out of the ordinaty, and correct, it's up to admissions not the coach as to acceptance.
Relax, and enjoy the holiday season. You are not alone in this dilemma.
