What do you think of the theory of the White Sox stealing signs during the first two games of the series?

The first two games Cardinals pitching gave up 33 runs, the next game Reyes had a no no through 6 inning. I just watched the replay of the last nights game, I noticed the cardinals changed had changed their signs, the result, 1 hit for the White Sox.

Were the White sox stealing and relaying signs or was Mulder / Marquis that bad and Reyes that good?

I remember for years hearing various announcers credit White Sox bench coach Joe Nossek with being the best in the biz at stealing signs. Believe he retired a while back.
Who knows if some signs were being stolen? I doubt the Cards' wouldn't have caught on earlier. I know Mulder was hurting (low 80's) and went on dl with shoulder issue.
Smokey, good to see you around again - hope all is well with JF.
The argument by the cardinals was not that the white sox stole signs from the coaches but it was that the white sox used technology (cameras in center field) to get the signs from the catcher and relay them........personally i dont know how you would do that in enough time to get it to the hitter but this is the argument from the cardinals......i dont have a problem with picking off signs from the dugout by reading the coach or peeking in on your lead from first or second.....(you also need to watch 1st and 3rd base coaches from peeking as they take their stance near the line)......but i do have a problem with using technology if that is indeed what took place
It is easy to steal signs given in by coaches or pick them off with a runner on second. In the 3rd game molina was giving alot of signs he would go through touching different parts of the body & then go through a number of finger signs all with no one one base.

The way it seems to me is that signs dont get picked off too often in the mlb.
Beenthere,

Here is my proposal assuming the Mets and White Sox meet in the World Series.

If the Mets win:

1) I get 12 hot dogs for the World Series victory.
2) TrHit gets a specially made 4 pound Hot Dog - fedexed to his home.
3) TR and I each get 2 cans of Coke.
4) "Hot Dog bonus". We take the total run differential in the series - and you match each run with another hot dog for Tr and I. If the White Sox have more runs in the series - but lose the series - you dont have to send a 4 pound hot dog to TR.
5) I get 25 tabs of Alka Seltzer.

Your turn - That is my offer.

Sign stealing debates have been swirling around the WS for a while, either by them or against them. If there is any indication that it's being assisted by technology, that's bush. Done the old-fashioned way, it's irritating, but a part of the game that has to be dealt with.

However, Muldar was throwing them (blank) high and down mainstreet....don't need to know what's coming to hit that.

Beenthere,

I take it that you are hesitating on the proposed bet.

If I were a White Sox fan - I would hesitate too.

MEET THE METS,
MEET THE METS,
Step right up and greet the Mets!
Bring your kiddies,
bring your wife;
Guaranteed to have the time of your life
because the Mets are really sockin’ the ball; knocking those home runs over the wall!
East side,
West side,
everybody’s coming down
to meet the M-E-T-S Mets of New York town!

Beenthere,

Thats a deal. We can wait and see.

In the meantime - may I recommend a couple of Steve Phillips "blasts from the past" for that centerfield position.

1) Mo Vaughn. I still think he can make the switch from 1B to CF.

2) Joe McEwing - Cant play a lick of outfield - but still has pop in the bat.

3) Jeremy Burnitz - yes - a fine choice indeed.

4) Roberto Alomar - a sleeper.

Pay anyone of them $10,000,000 for the remainder of the season - and I think the Sox may make it to Shea.

soxnole......I only mentioned the Sox CF situation because Beenthere has said a few times that the Sox need a journeyman CF......

mykla......the Sox were the 2005 World Champions.....my hat is off to them for that......but this is 2006 now!! The World Champion of 2006 has not yet been decided on the field. It certainly isn't going to be decided on a website.

The Tigers have some team members with legitimate World Series experience.......

And it is possible that the 2006 White Sox won't get the playoff experience in 2006. It is entirely possible.
