It's funny everytime I see a McCarverism, I read it and play it back in my head with his voice. Then I chuckle.... a lot.
Glove Man,
When I read your post it reminded of a SNL snippet of "Deep Thoughts by Jack Handey".

You don't have to listen to Valentine but soxnole's observations are correct.
How much for that bridge by the way!

When it comes to our D1 Team USA and their Japanese counterpart is it 'apples to apples' or 'apples to oranges'?

Speaking of Jack Handy, here's one: One thing vampire children are taught is, never run with a wooden stake.
As usual TR, you seem confused to the real issue at hand.
Speak to the issue. The Japanese play very, very good baseball. They play the game at the amateur and professional level as well as we do. They are not quite as talented, but they practice harder and longer. The result is that they make up the talent differential by playing smarter baseball.
They rarely miss a cut-off. They get bunts down 90% of the time. They run the bases with intelligence. They don't miss signs.
This is what fellow's who have played or managed in Japan (like Valentine) are aware of. The White Sox Vs the Japan League champion would be very entertaining baseball. The Sox could learn some baserunning 101 from their Japanese counterparts.
