Why HS Showcases are better for College Coaches and MLB scouts than tournaments

A recent conversation with several MLB scouts and college coaches pointed to many advantages HS Showcases have over seeing a player in a tournament setting for scouting or recruiting purposes.

1) HS Showcases have rosters available with address books of the players on the field.Tournaments often have team not submit rosters and the rosters submitted are incomplete

2) HS Showcases take BP on the field. Tournaments take BP these days and if they do usually in the batting cages not on the field.

3) HS Showcases run the 60 YD dash. Most tournaments dont.

4) You know exactly when pitchers will throw at HS Showcases.

5) You cant walk at HS Showcases. The better hitters get pitched around at tournaments.

6) everything is on one field at a HS Showcase.
Some tournaments can have as many as 14 games going on at once, most colleges will have 2 colleges at a tournament so 12 games not being covered.

TPM is right. Both have there place. Showcases are more convenient for colleges and scouts as the players are in a general area and they can see more players. Tournaments provide live action for them to see some of the intangibles and live pitching in a real game environment. Both serve the purpose quite well. I think most scouts and colleges like both.
Puma - Morehead State which is in Morehead, KY always has a showcase in October (usually early Oct, but got delayed last year due to rain). There are usually several colleges represented, but most are from KY/WV. It is a well run showcase and very inexpensive. Recruiting coach there is Rob Taylor - I'm sure he'd answer any questions if you were interested.

If you find any others in KY, feel free to PM me with questions - I'm familiar with most of the programs around here.
Our team did 3 showcase type tournaments..no tournament winners just played in your pool. Usually 4 to 6 games per event. There were several scouts at each event. We did other touraments as well. We had 4 upperclassmen receive offers from these events. Out of 12 on my team 2-05s, 7-06s and 3- 07s that was not too bad. One of the 07s generated enough interest to get on a prospect list, with more to come I hope. Plus we did it for $255 per player but they had to supply their own travel and food. We sold candy for the $255.00 so the players who wanted to move some candy played for their labor and no cash from their parents.
Team 1 South showcase was great!! I spoke to a few coaches who 2nd Dibbles point. They saw every kid run, bat, defensive drills, plus play in games.
One coach mentioned how he liked this event because he saw some new under the radar kids. Not to mention only 1 field and no driving. He mentioned how a lot of the tournaments and showcases you see the same kids over and over.
There's room for showcases and Tournaments...I don't think there is one answer for everybody.
The team one showcase this weekend in ATL was outstanding. They let the players showcase and then they get game play, so a best of both worlds. There were lots of good players in Atlanta too. There were 60 colleges represented, according to the Team ONe webpage, and that is about how many I counted on Sunday and Monday.

Another thing, my son was to play in last years showcase but sprained his ankle the night before. Jeff let him come this year and let last years fee cover this years. This was a class move by Team One.

I think Team One does just a good a job as PG in getting the players in front of colleges and pro scouts.
Allow me to say this: coaches will see a player(s) in a showcase--if they like him they will go see him a a tournament

As noted above--showcases and tournaments each have their place and deservedly so

Also note that some showcases such as ours have games as part of the format which also included the 60 et al and batting practice

The two--showcases and tournaments work when as a tandem
