Detroit wants someone to yake pudge and his salary. However Inge is owed 19m over next 3 years and Willis is making 6.45m the Phillies need a pitcher and Wills is a very good #3 IMO and Inge would satify 3rd base need. So take Inge and his salary along with Willis makes a win win for both teams.
The Phillies don't have anything to offer. Their farm system is mostly bare. They just traded one of their best prospects (Costanza) for Lidge.
I was humored by a line commenting the Tigers sacrificed youth to get Cabrera and Willis. They're 24 and 25. They've just been in the majors a while. I'll trade a 19 and 20 year old prospects for a 24 and 25 year old stars every time.
I still think the Phillies can aquire these 2 players for almost nothing, Throw in Wes Helms and a prospect. Remember it is a salary savings to Detroit of between 13m and 15m a year for the next 3 years. This deal only needs Phila to offer it. Detroit doesn't want Inge and they were forced to take on Willis who is arbitration eligable at most likely 8-9m a year.
I hated to see the Marlins trade Willis, yea he struggled this year but he was a big part of the team. I hope he at least ends up in the National league as he is almost as much fun to watch at the plate as he is on the mound. The guy can hit.
Well, people are still fired up here, but not so much as the trade but with the Marlins organization in general. Willis was overworked, IMO that is why he had an off year. His bat is terrific.
If you read MLB, the Marlins went after the Tigers first, and I do beleive that the Tigers will trade Willis to a NL team. I think the AL was a good move for Cabrera, if his weight slows him down in the field there is the DH.
