Rob Nenn pitched the last 1/2 of the 2002 season including the playoffs and World Series with a serious shoulder injury. His velocity was so far down the Giants turned on the radar gun in PacBell when he pitched. Multiple surgeries later he was never able to recover.
Nenn, Radtke and others are making a lot of money, have access to the very best doctors, and know the risks. They also have guaranteed contracts. Little doubt that there are players who would shut it down with a lot less injury factor...no I was not singling out Armando Benitez. Roll Eyes
Having watched the impact of injury this year, I have learned the extent of pain that some professional players endure. I know up close and personal the challenges faced over a 144/162 game schedule, both physically and especially mentally.

Knowing now, what I did not in March, I admire Radtke beyond words. Would I like the organization to shut him down and do what might be best for him? Absolutely. But he is paid extremely well and knows, or should know, the downside risks for all of this. When you are at that level and have access to that type of information, I believe each player can make good and correct decisions for himself.
The same cannot/should not be the standard at any other level of baseball, professional or otherwise.
Radke is a great competitor what did well against the A's but it just sends chills up my spine hearing a pitcher with that kind of problems throwing. They said he doesn't even throw between starts because he can't get his arms over his shoulders.

Now we have Randy Johnson on the mound for the Yankees with spine problems! He is throwing well but!

I know these guys have made it to the show; I hope youths don't follow in their foot steps!
Twins fans have been expecting that Radke will retire when the season ends. I was not surprised that he would do anything possible to try to help the team. I wish they could have gotten a win today, if for no other reason than for Radke to go out on a high note. But he will always be a winner with us.
