Pg, good points and you are entitled to your opinion. I never said he wasn't a great player. Heck, Yaz and Williams never won the big one. A lot of ego's in those two names. Maybe those quotes are tabloid gossip, but they're out there. Here's one for you. When I train infielders on footwork, I often tell them to watch A-rod, as his approach is excellent. When I talk about plate coverage and the ability to adjust, I talk about A-rod. I'm a red sox fan, but I know who does it right. IMHO I still don't think the yanks will win in 06 and he is one reason I think that.

NC, They haven't yet. They can shut lots of us up if they do this year. Hey, I listened to yankee fans for 45 years tell me that I could believe anything I wanted about the sox, but they hadn't won one in a long time. Now the yanks continue to go out and get the best and it hasn't worked. This site amazes me. All the experts come out to tear you apart when you say something controversial. NO ONE here ever sad anything about A-rod not being the best athlete or player in the game. I truly believe he is. But I know that it takes more than that. The QUESTION was "will the yanks win in 06"? I don't think they will, and only recent history brings me to that conclusion. If it any consolation to the town cryers here, I don't think the sox have a chance in h***. Hey it isn't easy getting through 2 playoff rounds and then the series as we've seen over the years. As for A-rod for Manny, as a sox fan I'd take that in a heart beat, but I don't think the sox would win the ring because of it. Key pieces of a team are more responsible for winning a series than most things. Great pitching in a short series, guys like Paul O'neil and Miguel Cabrera, Dave Roberts, and closers.

Hey BBscout, I never said the yanks should trade God, oh I mean A-rod. I hope they keep him, and as a sox fan, I hope they continue to fall short. Don't throw your baseball expertise around just because I don't believe the yanks will win in 06. It's still my opinion and just that. Disagree if you must, but you and others have taken the approach that their expertise gives them a stronger opinion than mine. Many of us know more than we're willng to post here, and I don't mean that in an arrogant way.

If your only opinion was the yankees won't win in 06, I doubt anyone would have said anything. The only thing that bothered me was this.

If any of you get a chance to read past quotes by A-rod's past teammates, you will find them enlightening. I believe the young rangers called him the cooler. He could make the hottest team cool off. Much of what has been written about him says that he's too immature, still treats his players like high schoolers and would cheat or steal his way on top.

Especially thought the last sentence was a bit much. I'd like to know who was quoted as saying that one. I mean was it Jeter, Torre, Bernie Williams... Who said that? Or is it one of those things that "they" say? Those are pretty harsh accusations no matter who we're talking about. There's been some serious cheating going on and Rodriguez (to my knowledge) is not a suspect. There's been some real lying going on too. What would this guy need to lie about to get ahead?
I would love to get rid of Manny. I don't care how much the players say he's not a distraction, anyone coming into camp late causes a problem. As for A-Rod, I feel he tries to do to much. He is a great player, but until he wins the big game I won't like him. I'd rather have a talented team player who performs in the clutch (such as Jeter), then one of the best players in the league that can't win. When he was with Seatle they couldn't win, he left and they won the division. He couldn't win with the Rangers, he left and they were instantly a better team. The Yankees dominated till they got A-Rod.
