I find the funniest thing about this is that he used an "alias", believing no one would piece together that perhaps the 6"5' guy was somehow going to go unnoticed. Riders are typically very fit but not particularly large guys.

Hope he gave his winnings to his horse. Running down a calf while dragging two cowboy boots through the dirt is quite a feat.
Thats alot of Cowboy, is he riding bulls or broncs?

More than likely that was his agreement with MLB along with a release regarding covering his own injuries, etc.
One of the best athletes I ever played with was James “Hoot” Gibson. Was an All-American LHP in college, finished 2nd in SWC in javelin throw (despite never doing it before), but above all he was also a rodeo cowboy - whenever he could sneak away and do it. Threw mid 90s but wasn’t drafted b/c of his small stature. Had a baby face so when he was 25 he made up a fake name, lied about his age, and attended an Atlanta Braves tryout camp. They signed him. Made it to AAA before they figured out who he was. Whole thing was Henry Aaron’s idea, who had been wanting to sign Hoot for years but Braves front office wouldn’t cooperate. That’s about the only story I can tell about Hoot that is suitable for this forum.
