I found this on the site that has the altered Diaper Depot® logo...

Why didn't I think of that? Especially when you consider that this is a tradition in my home town of Tillamook, OR.

And for you Model 'T' fans there is this.

How this race has endured through the many, many decades is amazing considering the tentacles of the EPA, DOT, NHSTA, USCSPC, DOE, OSHA, and PETA et al.

Well, I've got a new "area of interest/hobby" Reefing! No, not "reefer"ing, I mean salt water reef aquariums. Our younger HS-aged son would like to become a marine biologist. We're now about 6 weeks into our setup of what is called in the hobby a Nano" tank. It is only 8 total gallons, with about a 6.5 gallon display tank and 1.5 gallon sump. There's a lot to learn, but it is fascinating hobby. We've got coral, hermit crabs, fish, inverts, snails, etc. Here's some pictures. Any other "Reefers" out there on the HSBBW?

Two members of the "clean-up" crew.

Our two little "cave dwellers" out for a photo!

I am not kidding here, but it would be cool to see your hanging floral displays underwater. Maybe it could be a hanging "coral" display Smile

Thanks CD! But seriously, in the reefkeeping world, we are serious beginners. Like comparing T-ballers to the MLB. There are Web forums for this hobby that are unbelievably huge, with posters from all over the world who have the most incredible aquarium/reef systems. People literally invest thousands even tens of thousands or more.

My son and I can feel we're "catching the bug" on this. As a bonus, my wife is becoming enamored, so she very well might just buy-in if/when I propose the build/install of lets say a 75 or 125 gallon display in a room more prominent than our son's bedroom.....?!

We'll see. We're gonna keep gaining experience maintaining our currently thriving biosystem and see where we go, but I love this new hobby so far
Just came across this thread and am proud to say son and I have begun to make bats. My dad passed away two years ago and I inherited his woodworking tools, including a 37" Craftsmen lathe. After a trip to the local Woodcraft store for valuable advice, reading a book and many online bat-making sites, and buying some cheap ash billets, we gave it a shot. First bat (ugly son-of-a-gun) went 2 for 3 before cracking during Connie Mack play last summer. Since then we have prepared better templates, improved turning technique and tools, and can now turn a nice 33" 30.5 oz. maple bat that passes the ink test (less than 3 degrees slope of grain off parallel to the bat axis). Boys say they have nice balance and pop. Guy at Woodcraft store says all Dr.s should prescribe wood turning for anyone who wants to relieve stress - I'm loving it.
Eyeontheball - that is so great! I particularly like the fact that not only your son, but your son's friends are using the sticks you guys make to rake! You and your son should maybe make a "Wonder Boy" bat (from the film, "The Natural")for the upcoming season?

I started this thread a few months ago so that HSBBW posters could share their interests and hobbies outside of baseball, and I enjoy reading it. I particularly liked scdigger's posts and links (what an interesting hobby!), and Wklink's photo of his beautiful Fairlane and Thunderbird automobiles.

Also, I so enjoyed Coach May's beautiful post. I am personally not a "spiritual" man in terms of worship of a God or deity, but Coach May's post was so passionate for his love for the beauty of nature and of an affirmation of his personal faith. I'm sure I would enjoy a walk in the woods with Coach May.

Keep your posts coming, and thank you to those who have already shared.

2013 college season opening day for my Soph. pitcher's team in 12 DAYS!!!!!!
