RJM - I noticed the same thing.  I pay very little attention to PitchTrack but there were several strike three pitches in the Cardinal/Cubs games that anyone could see were off the plate.    Phil Cuzzi was not on his umpiring game, and for that reason I'm attaching this Eye Exam Coupon for his convenience.  Possibly he left his glasses at home a la Mr Magoo?

This is funny.

Pitch track is proof he needs the above.   The HRs are a direct result of poor calls. The pitcher is trying to figure out where the heck is his strike zone.

This is the playoffs, make it fair for everyone.

Yea TPM, Kershaw certainly struggles in the post season and his record does bear that out. But, his team needs to help him out with some runs!  It looks to me that Price and Kershaw just care so much, maybe even too much if that's possible. I just wonder if they get tight in some sort of way and allow the pressure to get to them a bit?

Albeit a Cardinals fan, I only watched a few innings of the game last night. I saw several pitches called balls that seemed strikes but when the monitor went up, the pitch was way off the plate. I don't believe the tracker correctly positioned the actual pitch location. They may have been balls but no way were they that far off the plate. They were much closer.

Man, you guys are tough!  Kershaw pitched a great game.  He got tired in the 7th and probably should have been taken out after the 2nd walk, but it was 1-0 with 2 outs when he was pulled.  Tough to say anything but great job.

Kershaw wasn't dreadful. But he wasn't himself. The guy walks one every eight innings. He gets in the playoffs and walks four in 6 2/3. He allowed three runs. Outside the Ks his performance was not Kershaw-ish. The net is he was out pitched by a second year pitcher. If Kershaw wasn't 1-5 in he post season maybe his loss would be looked at differently. The only way to look at it is he lost again in the post season.

On another pitching note I wish the Red Sox could have found pitchers like Lester and Lackey for this past season. As former Ch 4 sports anchor Bob Lobel used to say, "Why can't we (Sox) find players like this?"

Smitty, I am a huge Kershaw fan. He did pitch well up until the 7th. You kinda help me make my point. All great athletes believe in their abilities, but you also have to realize when you are tired or having a bad day or whatever the case may be. This is what I meant by saying maybe he cares too much. It might have been better fit the team if they had made the move sooner, but I'm sure Kershaw would have been kicking and screaming.

Here is my unbiased recap.  Kershaw makes mistake in the 4th inning to Murphy and that changes the game right there.  Pressure mounts on Dodgers offense and they can't produce depite numerous opportunities.  Dodgers out hit Mets, but Mets get them when they matter.  Kershaw pitches very well and DeGrom pitches excellent.  Why Carl Crawford is batting leadoff or even in the lineup....anyone?  Bueller?

The Mets have been using this opportunistic formula all year.  Excellent pitching and timely hitting.  Nobody in their lineup is hitting over .300.

Donnie will be done at the end of the season, new coach coming for sure.

Also why Ruggiano was not in CF is a mystery. Dodgers don't have the offense to get through the playoffs but they are heading in the right direction.

I was also scratching my head at the plate umpire in the Dodger/Met game. Really this is the best in the MLB?

FWIW - the plate umpire of game 2 in Texas-Toronto series  was all over the place with his zone.  Unbelievable.  He made the LLWS umps look professional by comparison.

Vic missed 15 pitches for a 93.4% accuracy rate. He missed 11 in favor of Toronto and 4 in favor of Texas.

Phil missed seven pitches for an accuracy rate of 94.6%. He missed five in favor of St. Louis and two in favor of Chicago. He called exactly one strike that was out of the zone.

Seriously?  What is your methodology?  How did you come up with those numbers?

Sorry, Matt, I'm not buying it because there were several people in the room with me who saw the same thing I did on exactly (reacted the same way at the same time) the same pitches and it was way more than 7.

Those are the PitchF/X numbers.

You must have missed the Astros - Braves playoff series in the 90's.  Glavine/Maddox owned the left hand batters box.

I thought this technology was pretty much infallible??    How do we trust technology calling balls and strikes if different systems call balls and strikes differently?
