It was a beautiful Saturday in North Texas today as JP's HS coach kicked off the season with a full day of scrimmaging. All three teams played games against each other, in uniform. I tuned up the on-field music, the scoreboard and the announcer's mike ... and everyone enjoyed hot dogs, burgers, sunshine and each other.

This is JP's (and our) last year of HS Baseball. Regardless of how things work out for him next, NOTHING will offer us the same experience we've had being part of the high school athletic community.

I found HSBBW when JP was in 8th or 9th grade. From day one, parents whose sons had preceded us down this path URGED me to slow down and cherish THIS moment.

You know who you are, and I want you to know: You were right -- and I have.

Thank You.

Yup, enjoy the moments. It doesnt last forever.  Stay involved. Have JP stay involved as well.

On Monday , son and 3 other players plus the former coach will have their numbers retired.   Son has been involved with his former HS program since he left. That was 12 years ago, we still go to watch when we can.

That's what HS baseball is all about!

Yes, by all means, enjoy it.  Warning - the year will go quick.  One day it's opening day and the next thing you know it's Senior Night (for us that was the last home game of the season).

Our son is now a "Student Assistant" (volunteer coach) at the JuCo he once played for.  Long story short - he played there for two years, then went to a D2 university for 1 year and came back when the D2 did not renew his scholarship (grades).  So he came back to the D2 to complete his AA and then move on to another university.

He's hung up his cleats, but still wants to be involved.  He misses playing, but it is what it is.

Yesterday a group of us discussed if you could pick an age what age would you go back to. We're all at the point where the kids are out of the house from college to adults in their late 20s.

My friends were surprised I picked 40. They all picked ages from the teen years to 20s. By 40 people are typically personally, professionally and financially accomplished. At that point they're married with kids. It's a good point in life. But at age forty my oldest was seven and started playing sports. My youngest was the PITA rug rat at practices and games. I could start right here and do it all over again. It was a great time.

I like this so much I'm doing the math, RJM.

JP turns 18 this week ... I'm 56 ... so .. when he was 7, I was uh ... 44!!

So that's my number.

Good luck to your son and enjoy this spring because it goes by so so fast.  My oldest graduated 2 years ago and I remember his Freshman year like it was yesterday.  His younger brother is now a Junior and it seems to be going even faster with him.

BTW....I know that field and yes the foul territory is huge.   I'll see you guys on Friday at Liberty for our scrimmage.  Looks like the weather this week will very nice.

Great pic and reminder JP. I have to keep reminding myself to live in the moment, especially when we are busy talking about the future. My oldest graduates in 4 months. This weekend is her last state competition for her sport. I have held it together pretty well so far, but I can see tears in my future. My Sophomore has 3 more HS seasons ahead of him, but I know it will fly by.

BTW - that is a beautiful facility. We have sun here this week, but I'm sure rain the rain will be back for much of the Spring. JP24son will get to experience that in a few short months
