Re: **OPEN TRYOUTS** Showcase / Travel Team
I would have to say that this team is very well put together. They have an all around approach to the way they are handling this team and it shows in their practices and meetings. I'm excited to watch my kids play for this team this year and I hope we have a great year with many more to come. The team site is awesome, whoever did their website design did an amazing job. High Academic minimum requirements
I'm guessing this could vary quite a bit depending on the school, but for general purposes, what are the minimum (and average) requirements for a baseball player to be considered as a "high academic" recruit or even to attend a "high academic" showcase. Thanks in advance.

D1 Baseball + STEM Degree
Our 2020 position player has been working through the recruiting process with a focus on high academic D3 and potentially ivy league schools. He has recently received some interest from a couple of non-ivy D1 schools. He would like to pursue a degree in science or engineering, and we are having a difficult time determining the D1 schools that would make this type of degree possible in conjunction with playing baseball. My impression is that there aren't many D1 schools where this would be...

Camp Reports: Univ. of Oregon and High Point University (NC)
A quick summary of two camps my 2020 RHP (PO) attended over the past two months. I thought that both were very good. University of Oregon: One day camp for all positions. Outdoors. The weather was a bit chilly but in the sun was very nice. The quality of the campers attending was good. I didn't see anyone that clearly did not belong -- which is not to say that all were D1 prospects, just to say that all looked like decent high school baseball players. The campers were given UO baseball...

Rising HS Sophomore Advice
This is my second post on the site. I received great advice from my first post, but I am still unclear about some things. I am a future sophomore with dreams and aspirations of playing at Notre Dame, going pro, etc. My freshman year was disappointing from a baseball standpoint. I was second-string under a player who was probably a little better than me. He threw harder than me and was well known by the coaches before the season. When I got opportunities I produced, but I was still a utility...

Club or HS for summer
Here's the scenario, there is a kid who is a big kid who hits well and has a strong arm. Throws across the diamond low 80's, pitches in the mid to upper 80's. Strong hitter, but struggles on defense, hasn't played 3rd for very long. Some college coaches have expressed interest as a pitcher, mostly NAIA and D3 and they want to see him pitch this summer. High school coach likes his bat, and has said he will not pitch him (big school, deep in pitching). High School coach also feels strongly...

Re: Catcher Skills
Wesley, As a 16 year old, you have a good base to work with. I would recommend three things immediately: 1. Lose the Knee Savers. This should allow you to get lower in your stance. Also along that line...get more flexible in your hip flexors. Take a yoga class. You have a pretty good sized frame and you will need to present a low target at times. Flexibility is very important. 2. Find a long toss or arm strengthening/stabilizing program. We use Jamie Evans' Velo-City (...

Re: Nick Butts 2015 William and Mary committed
I did report it. But thanks to Bobby for the photo from UNC! Nick has been pitching quite well and really raking it. It's especially fun when he pounds one out of the park -- since he's not the biggest guy, the outfielders always do that startled thing and then have to sprint in vain to the fence. Some may remember two years ago when VirginiaPreps.com did a feature on Nick and posted a link here. Some people questioned whether you really could tell who would become a big time guy so early on...

Re: enough advice...thanks...
Tough situation. I would imagine that the administration probably already knows about the guy. Surely some other people have spoken to him in the past. Maybe they don't care. You could look to layout a case against the guy with the AD by noting the number of people who've left over the years, and asking, "Does the school really have this many 'problem' players?" I would add, "Sir, don't you think that we are a pretty normal high school as far as kids are concerned? I see no other high school...
