How the lessons go at center field? Mike Evens at Scouts Training facility in Richardson is good. He has a lot of information at evenspresureball.com. I have a 2019 Lefty as well. Just finished DBU velocity camp. Coach Parry was excellent.

Hi LEFTY03DAD - Coach Matt Otteman has been FANTASTIC at Centerfield Academy! He's been working with both of my boys on pitching but hitting as well! My oldest has now hit his third home run in practice. Hoping it will pay off in a game. My youngest has had a lot of physical therapy and Coach Otteman is also studying to be a chiropractor so he knows how to help my boys with stretching, strength and flexibility! I'll look at the link you posted. Thanks!

My son played for Georgetown University and Coach Wilk. My son had options coming out of high school but he had his priorities when making his decision. He wanted to play D1 (please no comments about why just D1, I agree there are many great D2 programs and D3 programs, but Like I said these were his priorities)…he did consider D2/D3 programs but a priority was D1. Georgetown plays in the Big East and his first few years it was the old Big East so he got the opportunity to play against some...

Gov....he graduated this past Spring....double major in Finance and Accounting. He is working on Wall street. I am not sure but I think you can go on line and read about the new athletic building....like I said I think the baseball program will experience some positive aspects due to the overall improvement and additions. I wish they had done this years ago :-) Also I saw you asked about a JV program, there is none.

Son works out indoors at the same baseball facility as the Gtown, and frankly it's a haul from DC to this facility (and then add on DC/VA traffic). That's a negative. Having said that, those boys get at it during practice: no BS, and they compete hard. They don't leave anything on the table. Let's not forget the most important factor: IT'S GEORGETOWN! One of the best universities in the country!!!

2015 RHP considered Georgetown due to family connections - Dad has an MBA from there many moons ago and sister is in the Class of 2016. He's played many times at Povich Field, enjoys the environment, saw many of the team's practices, and still thinks highly of the program. From a parent perspective, the only negative in my mind is the off-site field. Yes, the 15-minute commute to Povich field is possible, but even if that were the case every time, that's 30 minutes a day of likely...

Reviving an older thread that brought into question the status of current facilities. Clueless JR will likely attend January camp, but thought i would share one piece of this mass mailing that updated current facilities discussion. This camp will take place on the Georgetown University Campus in our brand new indoor facility. Within the past year we have added a new locker room as well as we continue to invest in this program. As this is part of our continued effort to heavily invest in our...

That will definitely help. When my 2015 was looking there they would share some of the turf fields with other sports, though they had a batting cage on campus (that the coach said can be used at all hours). Their field would involve bus trips to Maryland everyday with a stadium that was used in a summer league and needed some TLC.

Hello all, Glad this was started as I have a question as far as interest. I got an email from the AC stating "Continue to keep us updated with new video and progress through the fall. Look into one of our winter camps in December and January and see if you can attend. Keep in touch." Would it be a good idea to attend one of the camps or should I just invite them to showcases I will be at? Thank you

He did not attended one of their camps but was seen at showcases and travel team games. I do know many kids do attend their camps and is a good way to get recognized. I am not sure how hard if would be to do a pre med tract and play baseball at Georgetown. My son did do a double major which I thought was crazy but he was able to pull it off. I have heard at other D1 schools it is not possible to do a pre med and play baseball but I am not qualified to answer that question. Best thing would be to talk to the coaches at Georgetown and I know they will advise you. Hopefully somebody else can help you with the pre med tract question. Good luck!

Dozens...perhaps even hundreds. Depends on how many prospects in a particular game, 0-30. Most. A lot, sometimes split across the week.

If you're playing at LakePoint there's a good chance there will be hundreds spread across the complex, (from just about EVERY conference in the country) at every part of the day... Depending on the depth of talent of the teams playing could determine how many coaches are at each particular game. Hopefully the organization you're going with has a reputation of getting kids committed, because that could possibly outweigh depth of overall team talent... Coaches do travel to the High Schools...

Not 100 percent going yet, but the team I would play for had about 90 percent d1 commits last year and their second team had 60 percent. I'm assuming more colleges attend the lake point games than outside fields.

Re: PG WWBA

MKbaseballdad ·
The honest answer is that there are 100s of coaches there but there is no way to guarantee who will be at each game. When my 2016 played there 2 summers ago we saw less coaches at our Lakepoint game than we did at several of our offsite games (there were lots of them at every site we played though). When he pitched at an offsite HS there were about 12-15 coaches there from Fla St, Duke, MD, VA, etc, etc. They were there to see the left handed pitcher and the catcher from the other team.

Most of these coaches are working from a list of players. They're moving from field to field to see the guys on their list. They don't have much time for just watching games and looking for undiscovered talent. If you go, you'll want your name known to schools that might be a good fit for you. That can happen through your coach, or through your own contact with coaches before going. There are plenty of schools from the west coast, but more are from the south, midwest and east coast.

I agree with BDS - discuss with your coach and make sure they are working off the same list as you are and that he is contacting those schools. But you should also be contacting them. There are lots of threads here for you to look at to get an overview of what to do, how to contact, etc so it probably doesn't make a lot of sense to re-list here. Sounds like a great start. Since the one RC knows you, I would send him a brief email with your number and a date/time that you plan to call him. That way he can put your name in his phone and know to pick up when you call. You can call him as often as you like, but he can't call you until July 1. Get to know the summer coach. He can act as a go-between. He can call/text you and say, "Call coach Smith right now, he's expecting your call."

NTGson played WWBA as 14U, 15U, 16U and 17U. The growth in coaches in attendance grew exponentially as each year came and went. For younger players, the experience is invaluable: quality opponents, now great fields (East Cobb was nice, but nowhere near the quality venue Lake Point is), very good officiating and thrilling competition. If you play in the 16 or 17U WWBA, you must have done your homework as other posters have suggested. The schools in which you are interested have to know of...

We did WWBA 15U the summer before son's Junior year. Son showed out and it lead to Sept 1 contacts from two major D1 programs (one East Coast and one West Coast). "I wonder how it sounds though, saying to a d1 hey call these other d1 coaches for me." You wouldn't have one of the D1 coaches you're in contact with calling other coaches - you'd have the D1 coaches you are contacting call your summer travel team coach to let them know when you should call them directly so they can pick up. The summer coach is the go between - he should be helping you get in front of D1 coaches and also helping you communicate with them up until July 1 when things free up...

I think PNW's issue is that his potential WWBA coach is the RC for a DI team. I don't have any experience with a situation like that. He probably needs to have a candid conversation with this coach about how he's done this with other recruits.

Sorry, I missed that part. I just re-read that part. Yes, that is tricky. My 2016's summer team (last two seasons) was coached by a D1 assistant coach. He was hands on and in regular contact with coaches on behalf of players but that was really during the summer season - not during the college season when he was coaching.

I think in this case the issue may be that talking about the bad throw that already happened is not productive at that point, and like everything else in the past should be left for the coaches to discuss after the game or in the next practice. But calming everybody down, going over the current situation after the error, and telling the 2nd baseman it's ok, don't worry about it, let's get the next out -- all that is the kind of leadership that is needed at that point and that your son is...

It's hard to say but the "no need to force the throw" part may have been taken as coaching. Do you think it's worth it for your son to ask the coach what he didn't like? If he doesn't know what he did wrong, he'll be reluctant to say much. Has he been told anything like this before?

That's always tough. We coaches are often pushing these young kids, particularly catchers, to be vocal leaders. But they are young kids. In the heat of the battle, what are the chances they are going to say just the right thing just the right way? I can see where the coach wouldn't agree with the statement being thrown out not to rush the throw since it already happened and that can sorta come off as admonishment instead of encouragement, regardless of intent or tightness of friendship...

Re: Leader or divider?

Lol. That's about it I suppose. On a high school diamond I can't conceive a situation where there is both A. A ball in the corner and B. Any sort of inkling there would be a play at third. So I am confused. I think what we have here is a right fielder tossing it to the 2nd baseman as a relay. Why I don't know. If a right fielder can't throw directly to third he is not a right fielder.

Re: Leader or divider?

FoxDad ·
Yes, a good RF'er should be able to gun it to 3rd, but not all HS teams have great fielders in right. Most likely it's the weakest arm of the all the outfield. Besides most of the time the kids are coached to throw to the cut off man. For a right fielder that would be the second baseman or the first baseman if the play may be at home.

Re: Leader or divider?

2020dad ·
Not to hijack... But no that cut off is the as not the 2b. Unless of course it is a double cut in which case it is the 2b or as depending on the throw - but not both. And on a double cut situation there would never be a play at third on the runner. The batter-runner maybe if home is conceded for any runners that were in base. So just a confusing situation as described.

Re: Leader or divider?

I was thinking the same thing! Only a double-cut situation would have the 2b touching the ball. Where was the SS???? Anyhow, there is absolutely nothing that the OP quoted that I would be upset with as a coach. A great team is one who has a few "field generals" actually on the playing field!

Re: Leader or divider?

I don't think the young catcher did anything wrong. Perhaps he can show his leadership quietly when they get back into the dugout and remind the 2b that "I've made that mistake before myself when I try and rush my throws to pick a kid off stealing 2b. I know you can make that throw with accuracy. Give yourself a chance to set yourself without rushing and make the accurate throw. I know you will make it perfectly next time." Similarly, I don't see why the coach didn't handle it the same way.

I don't believe the kid did anything wrong, I believe it is close to impossible for a sophomore to be a leader on the field. If it is possible it would be by the way of actions and positive play, communication on field during a play or hustle. After the fact pick me ups or criticisms are probably just not going to be well received. My son was 10th grade starter and the truth is Sr's don't want to hear from a kid they have to give a ride to because he is so much younger, they are fine with...

The proof is in the reaction of the second basemen. If he gave your son the eat crud and die look then yes the coach was right in calling him a divider. However, I suspect your son knows that kid better than the coach does since the team has been together all of a minute and made the right call. The catcher is the only position on the field that every player MUST listen to. If he yells cut-three then that is what the team does. It's his voice that controls that infield and where the ball...

Re: Leader or divider?

To address the OP's specific question... I think what we have here is a failure to communicate! I would guess the kind of leadership the coach was looking for would be the catcher being vocal in terms of directing play. Such as cut calls, reminding of outs & situations IN ADVANCE of the pitch/play. Examples: to pitcher with bases loaded less than 2 outs - you and me on the comebacker. Man on second up two runs to the first and possibly third baseman depending on the coach - remember to...
