3rdgen- Good point. The reason I brought up Santana in the previous post: I was invited by a friend to a Mets-Rockies game at Citi Field in the end of August. I got BP passes to the game because my friend's dad is the bench coach for the Mets. As I was standing there watching BP I was chatting with my friend's dad and we were watching Carlos Gonzalez playing pepper with the bleachers. I went through the early signees based on pgxchecker and it was interesting that Agoura had 4 early signers, Westlake 2, and Newbury Park, TO, Royal and Simi had 1 each, while Moorpark and Calabasas didn't have any that I noticed. Moorpark has a couple players that I'd consider early signing caliber.

My wife thinks the best 2008 player is Michael Victory. 6'5" 200 pound pitcher for Westford Academy. Of course, she is his mom so her opinion might be more than a LITTLE biased. Actually, WA has a couple of really good 2008 starting pitchers - Derek Klinka and Colin Royal. CV

Looks like Simi has a decent first round draw, Royal has a tough first round draw, but they have a shot, Newbury Park has a decent first round draw and TO should be able to make it to the 3rd round before being seriously tested, although anything can happen in the playoffs, especially when teams run into a strong pitcher they've never seen before. BOF you are right, geez the upsets are everywhere. Last year I dont think there was even one upset first round. Top half of the bracket there is just one upset that was not really an upset. I thought Tago would pitch and his ERA is .98 and Tago did not even pitch, their catcher did. Dana Hills beat Rio Mesa These three are just shockers to me. And not because the winners are weak, everyone out here is good, it is just the losing teams I felt were particularly strong. That is three upsets in...

Thx. I expected Simi to win and although I figured Royal should be the favorite in that game I didn't think they'd go far. They had great pitching but didn't have the defense or hitting to keep from being upset at some point. Good luck to your son, I thought he might have been which is why I asked.

I have never heard of this and I can definetly say that this was not always the case in our recruiting experience. It may just be that all coaches do things differently. A top prospect with many choices is definetly going to get the royal treatment, perhaps even calls to parents to help them feel more comfortable to. HC's pay their assistants well to recruit, and often times they are not even invloved until later or until an official visit. IMO, who cares where they got your name, answer the...

The key to the Marmonte league is pitching, not shortstops. Simi - Meyer and Jones, as well as Sandler who was most likely recruited as a catcher. Meyer and Jones can both throw 90+. Sandler worked 85-86 and touched 88 the day I saw him and knows how to pitch. Royal - Berglund and Buckel were both recruited as pitchers. Berglund and Buckel are both high 80s types who can hit 90 or more, although Buckel topped out at 89 when I saw him. Berglund especially has great pitchability. Moorpark -...
