Re: White Sox Stealing Signs?
I remember for years hearing various announcers credit White Sox bench coach Joe Nossek with being the best in the biz at stealing signs. Believe he retired a while back. Who knows if some signs were being stolen? I doubt the Cards' wouldn't have caught on earlier. I know Mulder was hurting (low 80's) and went on dl with shoulder issue. Smokey, good to see you around again - hope all is well with JF.

This thread has been hijacked by accountants!! Yikes.... 08Dad I am Gator CPA from '84!! SFSU has a great career center for accounting grads. A good undergraduate program makes sure the biz community knows its grads can make the grade and activly promotes its students. If you aren't getting many or any phone calls there is an upside. You get to choose a school based on YOUR academic needs and career goals rather then the baseball coach's needs. In the long run you'll come out ahead of the...

I got audited by the small business section (He told me the definition for small biz is under 10M annual income, I barely came in under that threshold ). After the audit, they found the obligatory small thing to whack me with. The guy told me it was going to take 6 man days to complete what he had done in 4 hours in my office. He shook my hand and told me, "You'll never see the IRS again, you're not worth it". When they audited me again two years later, the auditor couldn't believe they said...

Re: Will they really been seen if they are good no matter where they play?
That's because travelball is big biz and these guys want your loot. Of course a coach will say to somebody they're fauling their son. It's a way to sell the program. However, with these expensive travelball teams, players are getting more exposure. Is that good or bad? Who knows....It's probably good for exposure but IMO, I think over-exposure is no good because for example, in our area, there's a ton of D1 signees. It's not like our area became a hotbed for baseball all of a sudden. Some...

Re: The Bizzle
Biz.. just remember things can and do change in baseball. Nothing is secure, and promises are made to be broken. Would advise you and son to keep what the coach told you under wraps until he's out on the field game 1. My son was told by an assistant coach he'd be moved up to varsity his sophomore year yet he wasn't until his junior year. At the time, I remember being ticked off the coach even mentioned it. Not that it mattered in the long run.

Re: A notice to college/pro players and parents
For most kids drafted, there is no real ability to negotiate. Either you want the chance or you don't. Top picks have some leverage, but most of that is spent over money, not contract language. That being said, the form MiLB contract they send you is not too terribly full of surprises. One thing I did find odd was that the contract gives the team "exclusive" rights to the player's likeness. I suspect they mean "when in uniform" (trademark issues), or maybe just that they could use his...

In Feb of 06, his draft year during a bullpen in front of mlb scouts he blew out his elbow. A month later his advisor was with Ryans mother and I in the recovery room in Birmingham after the Andrews slice-n-dice. He didn't pitch for 11 months but the guy was always a phone call away. The big insurance biz makes sure of it. Unless you go to him and say he is sever pain and what not, and even then the MD still has to jump thru hoops for a MRI

Re: Shoulder Injury
What? If the original poster has any kind of medical insurance, I'm assuming he does, he simply needs to get a referral to a sports medicine doctor from the regular doctor. Call them, get a referral. Sports Ortho will look at him and odds are will order a MRI. Don't wait and see. My son ended up having a broken bone in his foot, and it wasn't visible until they did a MRI. Normal Doctor said to "Stay off it and take it easy".

Age of the parents does not have a significant impact, as income and financial resources are the primary interest. There is really only one requirement to be an Agent. A client. If you have someone who is a professional athlete who trusts you enough to allow you handle their negotiations you can do the rest regardless of training, qualifications. There are people in the biz that are dry cleaners, accountants, stock brokers etc. Isn't necessary to be a lawyer.

ok - twice in one thread. Voodoo is absolutely bang-on here. Arbitration and multi-year deals are absolutely the most important negotiations of a players career. And, if you didn't trust your son's future with an agent, obiously you wouldn't sign with him. Trusting his future also means that he knows what he is doing in these critical areas - as Voodoo says, players can easily lose millions if these aren't negotiated well. "Give 'im the stinky cheese"
