Prospect vs School Camp (Vandy, UNC, Duke, Arkansas, Virginia) & GT Visit
Figured some people might now know the difference between the two "camps". Pun intended. Threw in the GT visit to bring it all together. Grab some popcorn, it's a long post.... My son did quite a few camps at schools he was considering in the last 2 years. 1 day, 2 days, a few days and Vandy's 5 day camp. Thought I'd give you a review. We'll go in order.. Vandy HS Prospect Camp . Tim Corbin is one of my favorite humans! The man is brilliant and very active and very much about manners,...

Awesome write up. Glad he is coming to TECH. The degree will open so many doors - still opening them for me at 54 years of age. Coach Hall is awesome and Coach Nick is second to none ( I can tell you how to get on his good side and stay there if you like). My son goes to the over night camp in the late summer and has a blast. I have not met Coach Ramsey or Coach Borrell yet. might get a chance if son goes back to the camp this summer. It is a great school and the young men are awesome - even...

Congrats to your son on his commitment and I enjoyed reading your reports. Did you get to tour the Jerry Jones Center when you were at Arkansas? It is the academic and nutrition building next to the basketball arena.

Wow! Fantastic write up and awesome news for your son and your family! We did the Duke camp too two summers ago and I was similarly disappointed. I did a write up here a while ago, but it was very much a camp like the local baseball academy would run, which was disappointing though there were real coaches there, which was nice. We were back there a few weeks ago and it looks like they have upgraded the stadium a bit with newer turf and a jumbotron in the outfield. The bleachers still stink -...

Thank you! Happy to share his journey and what we found out and experienced. Super Proud of him on this journey and his choice with GT. The issue my son had with Stanford was the academic rigor. We have some athletes from our HS there and one plays on the baseball team. He was valedictorian and brilliant. He told my son "I thought I was smart before I got here" another High GPA student from our HS told my son she "thought after getting here they sent the acceptance letter to the wrong...

I'm not sure about about other faculties, but my BIL went to GT for EE. He said it was so hard that he transferred to an "easy" school, UIUC!

Yes EE great and tough program. Son is interested in Business School. Which is also a great and national program. GT top 5 degree. He knows it won’t be a cake walk either. Loved ATL and we love all the direct flight access to/from and it NOT being California

I will second that the Vanderbilt camp was the best camps we went to. Incredibly well run, down to the minute. We went to two. The winter camp was only 2 days and freezing. Our schedule said our son would pitch from 10:08 to 10:11. That is how much it runs like a machine. I also loved Corbin (and his wife)and left feeling like it was the right place for my son and that he was a man I'd be happy to have as my son's role model for 4 years. It didn't end up being, but even if I knew going in...

Submarine Pitching Coach
Hello, I’m looking for a submarine pitching coach in the Atlanta area. Preferably south. I’m in high school and trying to improve velocity and ball movement. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Re: Submarine Pitching Coach
Find a PC that was a submariner. My experience has been that only guys that threw that way themselves are good at teaching it. If you can’t find that make sure you find a PC that has a history of helping guys that throw from down under. Anything less than that and you are wasting your time and money.

My splitter is a bit unpredictable. I can usually get it close. I rarely go 3-1 though. If the guy gets to first it’s because I tattooed him by accident. Get Outlook for iOS< https://aka.ms/o0ukef >

I don't really know much about pitching but I think an important aspect is that the arm isn't really dropped much but the body is tilted over a lot. Watch this video https://blogs.fangraphs.com/ko...ig-league-ambitions/ Arm slot is usually only really body posture. Re: Submarine Pitching Coach
How long have you been throwing submarine and what is your timing like? Are you trying to gain velo during the season? If you can wait until after the season I'd recommend looking into a place like the FL Baseball Armory. My son went there last year as soon as his HS season ended. He also throws from a low slot and they were able to help with command, movement, and velo. They also helped with his breaking stuff.

Re: Submarine Pitching Coach
I’ve been at it for 6 months. My arm slot kept dropping until it felt great at 9 o’clock. Then my Dad sent me to a Sidearm Nation weekend camp where I started working on Submarine. It was one weekend of instruction which really helped. I would like to be in the 70’s. I’m 60-65 now. I also want to make sure my mechanics are correct so I don’t mess up my arm. My season is pretty much over. I was looking for a summer local travel team to help keep me on the field. Maybe a summer camp or two...
