Pete Rose bet on baseball and we all the know what followed. Barry Bonds and others cheated baseball and we all know what followed. Rose was banned from the game and rightly so in my mind. Bonds and the rest of MLB are on notice that it will not be tolerated anymore and there will be testing. In my mind using performance inhancing drugs that are illegal by the way taint the game just as much as betting on baseball. The punishment should fit the crime. Every family has to make their own decision regarding their child's select baseball experience. If your player is currently a Marshal or a Tiger or any other team, and you are happy with the organization, why would you leave or have a problem with this merger...it doesn't affect you, nor does it drive up any costs to you. As far as that goes, this merger was just announced, so we don't know yet how it will impact the area baseball, if it does at all. Regarding the recruiting of players on...

Re: How to Torture a College Baseball Player

RJM ·
When the entire team gets punished they come together policing the problem in the future. A coach can't always be there to tell if someone is breaking curfew. But if I'm a player seeing someone about to break curfew after going through that workout, I go stone cold and tell the player, "If I have to go through that again over you. I'll kill you." I'm betting the player decides not to break curfew.

If someone said you have to bet your life on whether Bonds ever used steroids which way would you bet. I can't take any of those homeruns away from...

Not sure if this has anything to do with moderators, but sometimes it helps me. For some reason on the laptop, I write in the reply box and lose it all before posting. Kind of makes you mad if you’ve written something you think is really good stuff… (Doesn’t happen much in my case) So I started writing the replies in “WORD” format and then paste it in the rely box. That allows for a bit of extra thought before actually posting. Even then, sometimes what is written doesn’t come across...

I don't recall Mark ever writing what the goal they have set for baseball, but it may quite possibly be something other than a D-1 ride (which I think is now set at 33%.) Playball2, first I believe that there are issues with property rights of "Team USA." That might be a big enough deal in itself. We just went to watch Team USA's Softball Olympic Team. The marketing of their merchandise must pay for a lot of their goods. I'm betting that the baseball situation is much the same. Again, I'd think that the title has legal protection. TPM, You are allowed to hijack any thread I start. You’ve been there -- done that -- so you know how it is. I think “fit” is an ever changing goal and the player and the parent have to be able to adjust to find the best fit. For instance: a roster that might appear to be a great fit last year just signed an All American at your position. Suddenly that great fit became a terrible fit. The coach’s needs just changed so that recruited player has to move on. My son was recruited as a catcher at...

Genetics can involve many different things. There is sufficient evidence that it does pertain to athletic ability. Regarding this subject, there are things I’ve noticed over the years. Nothing scientific, just observations! First of all, throwing 90 mph is only a number. If Dad has a good arm and Mom has a good arm… There’s a real good chance their kids will have good arms. All of there kids have a good chance to be able to throw harder than most kids. That said, it doesn’t mean they will...

While the praise is appreciated, I'm still not sure how good JR really is. We have games where we hit like demons, other games where the offense is a no-show. One constant has been that our young infield puts us behind the 8-ball at least 2 innings per game. The losses until yesterday were "quality losses" if there is such a thing. Yesterday was not. The early signs tend to be pitchers, catchers next, other position players/hitters to follow. The pitchers are often above the 33% line anyway, so I don't know that they will see a lot of changes. But I do agree with TPM that the rules changes have people taking it slowly, thinking it through, and maybe waiting to see if the rules become final -- and hoping against hope that they don't. Just goes to show that the NCAA has absolutely no concern for the welfare of the player and all pretense to the contrary is just that, pretense. Hence the NCAA now wants to pick another fight, and return to bullying people until someone spends tens of thousands of dollars yet again to beat them.
