Re: PG Grade/Top Prospect List Chances?

My son went to his first PG event after Freshman year in high school. He did all of the tests and received an 8.0 grade based on his speed (7.2 at the time) and throwing velocity as a position player. He has been to two WWBA championships and other tourneys since then. He has been named to WWBA all tourney team twice as well as top prospect lists. PG made him an Hon Mention All American twice but never changed his grade in his profile, inspite of the fact he runs 6.5 and his velocity is up...

My impression is that the 1-10 grades only come as a result of PG Showcases and the Underclass All American Games. If he wants a regrade, he needs to do another PG showcase.

I'm very late in saying this but since you all are interested, I got an 8 grade. Probably very close to an 8.5. I hear if you get 8s in each category (or X number in any category), they'll round you up to an X.5 or even X+1 overall. I got 8s in hitting, power, and pitching. I was surprised to see I got a 6.5 in fielding, and I'm sure that's what kept me from getting an 8.5 overall. Not sure though. Also surprised my hitting and power were the same as my pitching.

Don't let PG score or any other showcase result get you down. Take it for what it's worth, a set of numbers of how you compared with others or in the eyes of the staff. Ultimately every time you play in a showcase or tournament you are giving 100% in both play ability and how you conduct yourself. If anything use the scores and results as a way to monitor your advancement and improvement. If you can increase the numbers (relatively speaking) you are on the right track. The RC want you as a...

It's my understand that you only get a grade based on showcases....WWBA, etc, won't get you a grade. My son was honorable mention all american and also on 2 all tourney teams and never got a grade. He did end up in a great spot in their state rankings both overall and position, though obviously they don't see every kid from Ohio, so the rankings aren't necessarily perfect, though after 2 years of college, a lot of the guys he's ahead of that probably thought they should be ranked higher and...

1. Find a travel organization that provides opportunities to develop, national exposure and ideally has a track record of moving players to the types of schools you are targeting. Dont just hop teams because they play at national events 2. Play for a team consisting of his grad year 3. Ideally his travel team will be connected to resources who can supplement what they provide in coaching/training. 4. Dont showcase until their is something to showcase....highly recommend PBR showcase...

After reading many many posts, I would say that many of the "recruting" things don't matter until your son is in high school. The advice that comes up the most frequently and gets the most likes on the board seem to be (1) maintaining grades (2) taking a college admissions test as early as possible (9th grade? Early 10th grade?) so your child knows where he stands and can work to improve scores as needed (3) tracking key statistics at home so you know when to showcase (don't showcase unless...

Chuck all your questions and prove he can compete on the 60/90 field. Until he does this all your questions are irrelevant. He also needs to get himself playing grade appropriate in travel ball as soon as he proves he can handle the field size. Playing 12u as a 7th grader unless he’s a physical late bloomer he was a bigger boy among many little boys. At the least he was likely more emotionally mature. Your best source of direction and information is to ask your son what he wants to do so he understands that the family is making this a priority and an investment in his future. If he truly wants to play at the highest levels possible (even at his age) there are going to be sacrifices made by him and the family. He needs to understand this is...

I’m going to provide a point of reference with a team you are probably familiar as an example of how hard it is to look down the road. I’m sure you’re familiar with Tri State Arsenal. They're a powerhouse. We played them so many times from 13u to 16u I became friends with one of the dads. When our kids made their respective 17u teams he told me only four players from the 13u team were good enough to make the 17u team.

Probably depends on how your current exposure (via club team) matches up with target schools - and whether the PG event will in fact help with similar matching of schools. Any specifics on what the target list looks like and whether he has been able to get in front on many of these? Or, are you looking to cast a wide net?

Do you and/or your 2017 have a target list - based on whatever baseball evals you may have received AND 2017's academic profiles? I would assume that if you club team has sufficient contacts to get several D1's to attend their clinics/camps, then they should probably know which coaches generally attend the Cedar Rapids event. Probably worth it if your target schools are expected to be there, probably not worth it if simply casting a wide net.

I don't have experience with this event, but from experience I can tell you PG runs very organized events. What is your motivation to go? The rating? I'd be thinking about events where some of those colleges are attending. Also, it could make more sense to hold off for a PG Sunshine or Academic showcase in May or early June. He could get ranked...

There could be 100 colleges watching your player perform and there might be very little interest, if any. There could be no colleges in attendance and your player is outstanding. There will be many colleges that show serious intertest. We have seen this happen over and over every year. The door is open! HOWDYBASEBALL, Once again everything depends on how talented your son is. If he has the talent to play at the highest level or be a pro prospect, it is always best to get involved in the National events. The reason is it opens up opportunities and increases his value everywhere, including his home state. That said, if we see this type of player at any event, we will do everything possible to...

Not sure, based on your description he should only be pitching. 6.55 and a strong arm are two tools that really stand out. Also, FWIW, power arms often develop into power hitters. There is a 2016 by the name of Josh Lowe who we selected for our All American Game. He is a tall (6'4") RHP and throws in the mid 90s with a good breaking ball and change up. At the same time he is the #1 tools guy in his class. Plus runner, Plus Arm, Plus Field, Plus hitter, Plus Power. He would be a first round...

If you're playing at LakePoint there's a good chance there will be hundreds spread across the complex, (from just about EVERY conference in the country) at every part of the day... Depending on the depth of talent of the teams playing could determine how many coaches are at each particular game. Hopefully the organization you're going with has a reputation of getting kids committed, because that could possibly outweigh depth of overall team talent... Coaches do travel to the High Schools...

Not 100 percent going yet, but the team I would play for had about 90 percent d1 commits last year and their second team had 60 percent. I'm assuming more colleges attend the lake point games than outside fields.

Re: PG WWBA

MKbaseballdad ·
The honest answer is that there are 100s of coaches there but there is no way to guarantee who will be at each game. When my 2016 played there 2 summers ago we saw less coaches at our Lakepoint game than we did at several of our offsite games (there were lots of them at every site we played though). When he pitched at an offsite HS there were about 12-15 coaches there from Fla St, Duke, MD, VA, etc, etc. They were there to see the left handed pitcher and the catcher from the other team.

Re: PG WWBA

MidAtlanticDad ·
Most of these coaches are working from a list of players. They're moving from field to field to see the guys on their list. They don't have much time for just watching games and looking for undiscovered talent. If you go, you'll want your name known to schools that might be a good fit for you. That can happen through your coach, or through your own contact with coaches before going. There are plenty of schools from the west coast, but more are from the south, midwest and east coast.
