1 game playoff VS 3 game series

Here is what I posted on the other thread in regards to 1 vs 3 games:

I hate that UIL gives an option, we have discussed this before on the boards, they should make it 1 or 3 for all with no option.

My opinion is that baseball playoffs should be a series. If you know going into the season that it is 3 games no matter what then come playoff time the coaches will have to develop depth throughout the season, that means more kids playing and you will be ready for 3 games.

The one game situation can only come back to haunt a coach if they lose the game.

It is a Catch 22, You win a 1 game situation you are a hero you lose and you are a zero in the eyes of the parents and players.

Get rid of the choice UIL....

It is a coin flip if the coaches do not agree on the weekend's format. Playing 1 game is not so much a matter of having enough pitching....as much as it is an educated guess that "your" #2 and #3 can beat "my" #2 and #3 (if I'm the coach that wants a single game). It's about pitching depth.

East had 4 pitchers with enough innings to be ready for a 3-game series -- and 2 additional relievers. In the case of our series with Rockwall, we lost in 2. For us, it was more about timely hitting than pitching. Sometimes, you have to get to the 3rd game to take advantage of your depth.

If I have the weeker team, I want a single game, the stronger I want three. Anything can happen in a single game but the best usually wins a three game series.

My thoughts are that you have a mandatory 3-game series, only exception for a 1 game is weather.

If you have a weak team, short on pitching then a 1 game may be your best shot. But, you are also going to see their #1 and if they have a strong team then it may be a mute point.

In some cases, as we saw this weekend, you may see their #1 twice!

kingfish -- it's not difficult to understand -- when in doubt answer with, "that was determined by the coaches' mutual consent or by a coin flip". It's that simple. I think there are 9 or 10 items that are open for discussion, including the baseballs that are used.

Thanks goodness we didn't have to play 3 games. We were out of pitching!

PD-As for the 200+ by 1 hurler, it reminds my of a few years back....Kerry Wood. I hope somebody steps in before that happens again.

It should be best of three.

BUT...teams should also be playing three games a week thru the season.

The pitching I saw Saturday was GOD AWFUL.

I like the 3-game series as it is about "Team" and not 1 ace. Of course, the ace may get abused by not getting proper recovery time. How about 3-game series with pitching limits...never mind as that brings to mind kiddie ball.

Everything is open for discussion. Umpires, sites, uniforms, announcers, whatever. It's a pretty fun process I think.

So you guys that say 2 of 3, what about the state tourney? Should it be 2 of 3 also?

yes, but scheduling makes it almost impossible. You'd have to stretch it out over two weekends, and most schools budgets, etc. make that real tough.
