Ocean Lakes Shawn Morimando rolled to his 3rd straight victory since suffering his first loss, moving his record to 8-1. The Dolphins scored a run in each of the first two innings before the game was haulted early in the third.
There was a scary moment to begin the third when a high and inside pitch went off of Alex Lamberts bat and struck him the face. The game was haulted for quite a while as the EMS took excellent care of Lambert, helping him off the field. Alex is currently doing just fine after a visit to the hospital, as I got in touch with him recently to make sure he was ok.
After play was resumed, the Dolphin bats came alive after Randy Rechkemmer took ball four in continuation of Lamberts 3-2 count at bat. Next batter, Shawn Morimando then launched a fastball over the 340ft sign and scoreboard for his 4th home run of the year and 3rd RBI on the afternoon, making the score 4-0. Ocean Lakes continued to score 5 more runs en route to a 7 run third. Kellam responded with three runs in the bottom half of the 3rd. After a walk and a HBP, Kilmon launched a 3 run shot for Kellam, their only runs of the game, making the score 9-3. The Dolphins were later able to add 4 unnanswered runs over the next 4 innings making the final score 13-3. Shawn Morimando, though giving up the home run, only surrendered 2 hits to the Knights, in going 6 IP. Pat Ryan came in for the Dolphins to close out the 7th.
Ocean Lakes now climbs to 15-3(13-1 Beach District) and continues to sit atop the Beach. The Diamond Fins return to play Friday, May 14th @ 5PM, @ Kempsville High School. The last meeting between the two teams resulted in a 12-0, no-hit victory for the Dolphins.
Families and Friends of Ocean Lakes High School Baseball wish Alex Lambert the best of luck in recovery and to get well soon. As Alex told me recently, He said to plan to see him at Districts. Tough young man and talented ball player. We are all praying for you Alex.
