Allen will probably fly under the radar due to past seasons, but we have a very good team this year.  That being said, all 6 teams in this district are solid up and down.  Pitching depth will be critical, given all the teams play each other 3x, including Saturdays.  Tu, Fri, Sat district games almost every week will test the depth... so it will come into play more this year than in previous seasons.

Allen Wrangler,
Absolutely Allen could easily win the district, they won't fly under the radar I think everyone is aware of what they can do they have a lot of talent over there have watched there top tw pitchers for about 8 years they can certainly pitch  And certainly did not want to leave them out. I had to leave the returning district champs Plano in as until they are knocked off they make my top four, East returning two pitchers that got them to regional quarter finals had to put them in there and with the schedule the way it sets up I thought the bats at West and Boyd would find a way.  But anyone of these teams could win or go home. Will be fun to watch. See you at the ballpark!!

This district race should be fun to watch for several reasons. Any of the 6 schools could win it. A lot of players that have played with and against players from other schools. Natural rivalry w/ Plano, Allen and McKinney schools. And maybe the best part, the format. 15 district games or (5) 3 game series. A couple back to back nights against the same opponent. 5 District games in 9 days toward the end of the season. Pitching depth will be huge in this district. Should be fun.

and I think this type of district schedule creates a very accurate reflection of the team...moreso than having 1-2 dominant pitchers and cruising through.  I realize no school has the choice... its all up to the UIL.  But it creates an interesting and unique dynamic with having just 6 schools... all of whom are playoff-caliber.   I cannot speak for all the other schools in the district, but I like the kids that Allen has on the mound at #5-7.  You may indeed never get to #6-7 in district play, but you're going to need a few relievers along the way who can hold things together when others get tired/injured, etc.

Joe... best of luck to Jake!  See you out on the field in a month or so.

Plano East goes 4-1, including a salty first game of the tourney road win against FM Marcus. The Panthers received 5 excellent outings from 5 different starting pitchers along with a slick 2 inning scoreless stint from their closer. When they play good defense, they're a good team.

There's a definite step up in competition (Amarillo, Lubbock Coronado, Highland Park, Mansfield, Lubbock Monterey) next week but this was a good way to start the season.

Allen went 3-1... Thurs game got rained out.

5-1 vs Greenville

3-0 vs. Lovejoy

9-0 vs. Saginaw

1-2 vs. Tomball (I heard they are a top 4A team, but I haven't researched it myself... the guy who threw against us reminded me of all the Flower Mound P's from the last few seasons in 9-5A... whatever, they are a very, very good team).

We threw 7 pitchers, and all did extremely well.   Like I'm sure is the case with everyone else, a lot of guys got to play this weekend, which is great.

Sounds like the district represented itself very well this weekend!

Well, two weeks in and the top 4 don't appear to be a surprise. Maybe the order in which they rank is up for discussion? Yes it's still early, but Plano has looked deserving. East maybe a slight shock just based on last year. McKinney pitching has been good enough to win and no way Boyd is winless. Lions could be 3-1 very easy, but "woulda, shoulda, coulda." West is certainly gett'n it done. So many of these boys have played with/against each other for so long....it's obvious by their facial expressions and ingame convo's they are having a lot of fun out there.

There is just no way to really tell right now.   This 6-team district is different than 5-5A, which is also 6 teams, but we play each team 2x in a week the first time through, instead of doing a round-robin.  So with 4 of 15 games having been played, we've all seen 2 of the 5 opponents.

My only prediction is that the 4th place team very well may have a losing record in district (7-8 or 6-9)... b/c it is not like there are 4 strong teams and 2 poor ones, or 5 strong ones and 1 bad one.  Any of these teams can beat the other.  It is just that tight.  Winner of the district won't be 14-1, 13-2.  Or at least that's how close I believe it really is.  I've been wrong before, and maybe someone will go off and run away... but on the bottom side, no one is so poor they will get skunked.

My other prediction is that East roars back... they are too strong.

I agree with the take that the fourth team in will have a 6-9 / 7-8 record. I still think Plano is the champ until somebody knocks them off.

Each team is going to hit a rough patch...sometimes those skids last 5 games, sometimes 10 games. Just gotta stop the bleeding the best you can and grind your way through to the other side. That's where Plano East is right now.

Kyler Murray is a game-changer over at Allen. They have a few new players but he's such a catalyst. I also like the pitcher McKinney pitcher Vassar.

Btm 7, Allen down 2-1 to McKinney.. Allen has bases loaded, no outs. McKinney/Brad Vassar gets a ground ball to the 3rd baseman/Christianson who makes a webgem play on the runner headed home to save the tieing run, and get first out. Next AB, Vasser gets a pop fly to shallow right, 2 outs, bases still loaded. Vassar then K's the pinch hitter to close out game. McKinney holds on to win and bring their record to 3-4 in District. A great game played by both teams, McKinney defense was solid. Allen battled and battled all night and showed alot of fight. That's what I love about watching high school baseball, tight games, awesome competitors and nail-biter endings. Love this district!

In your senerio it truely would be a three team tie for 1st place in district. West has tiebreaker over Plano (3-0). Allen has tiebreaker over West (2-1) and Plano WOULD have tiebreaker over Allen (2-1). So if I'm not mistaken I believe these three coaches would meet at the local McDonalds and reason out a way to come to a conclusion for seeding for playoffs. Three team playoff, coin flip etc. All three would be considered district champs. I think??

Indeed, it could be crowded at the very top.   2-way ties are easy in this district, since everyone has played 3 games against each other.  But as Ex Wrangler said, this would be a true 3-way tie.

A _big_ consideration is that the bi-district round starts just a week after district play, so there isn't much time.  Weather can play a big role, too.  Just don't have time to play a lot of games (can't risk round-robin or the same scenario may occur after its all over) and keep kids fresh for the playoffs.  Field availability for an extra game/two should not be a concern with these teams, however.

I've seen it "reasoned" out several ways in the past.   3-way "flip"... literally just flip for seeding.  This would be the least taxing on the players, but its also the least "fun", and everyone wants to win it on the field.

Another option is you flip to determine who gets a bye in a playoff scenario.  The other two teams play to determine who plays the team with the bye.  Then those two play for #1 seed.

Another option is to take the # of district wins against the common opponents.  It doesn't always work, but in this case it would.  West would have 4 wins (3 vs Plano, 1 vs Allen), Allen would have 3 wins (2 vs. West, 1 vs Plano), and Plano would have 2 wins (2 vs. Allen).  West gets #1, Allen #2, Plano #3.  Some may say this is not fair... but I think in all the scenarios above, there are issues.

Of course, it is all speculation, and may be completely unnecessary come Friday night...but a fun mental exercise, I guess.

Regardless of seeding, you still have to play the team that is scheduled.  As we all know what happened last year with East going 3 rounds deep after being a 3rd seed.  After having watched our son play in the playoffs the past 3 years, it sure has been a fun ride.  Enjoy these times!!!  As it has been said in the past, you are not guaranteed or owed nothing!!! It has to be earned.  Good luck to all involved in the post season and make 10-5A proud like last year!!

Allen loses and West wins there will be a 3 way tie for 1st and Allen will play Plano again Sat morning.  The winner of that will play West.

AW- Do you know when these games would be played and where? See that the West/East game and Allen/Plano have been moved up a day and will play today.

I do not know for sure, but one possibility I heard was 12pm/3pm at Al Alford (McKinney).  I will confirm if/when it is necessary and I know something certain.

3-way tie for first place.

Fantastic game for the baseball fan last night at Allen, with both pitchers carrying shutouts into the 8th inning.  Plano executed well, Allen made an E or two...and Plano wins, 1-0.   If you like pitching... this was a game to see.

Allen plays at Plano Sr tonight at 7:30.   Winner plays Plano West on Saturday (I do not have the time for that).  These games determine seeding vs. District 9-5A for next weekend's first round.

"Shout out" to the McKinney Lions who after a 1-4 start ran off a 7-2 stretch through the toughest two weeks of the district schedule. The boys battled their way through it, got solid pitching, played good d and had timely hits. Congrats to the entire roster who all at some point made a key play. All four teams were a blast to watch!

Congrats to foes Plano, Plano West and Allen on their 2nd round playoff victories!!!  Great season as well to McKinney for getting to the 2nd round when nobody gave them a chance including district foes.  Should be a good matchup between West vs. Allen as well as Plano vs. Rockwall.  Enjoy the ride!!!  3 teams left from 10-5A speaks volumes to this district and how tuff it has been over the past 4 or 5 years.  Continue to represent and who knows, maybe we can take a ride to 6th street then over to Disch-Faulk Field!!!
