Oops....14-3A
Surprising. I thought Crandall would rin away with the district. Any idea who the pitching matchup's will be Friday?
Bushnell (WP) and Gilbert (Crandall)
I know Bushnell has gotten some publicity and is considered D1, but Gilbert owned him the first time. Complete game 4 hitter with 11 k's and 1 bb. The WP kids looked overmatched and honestly have looked that way several times against quality teams. That and shaky defense doesn't help Bushnell but with what I've heard about him....I wasn't very impressed. I thought he was 86-88 and could touch 90. I bet he was throwing about 82ish that night and gave up a hit every inning (9 for the game). Not exactly over-powering.
Gilbert looked good last year and saw him in a scrimmage game early and he looked real good. I haven't seen Bushnell pitch since a scrimmage against kaufman last year. His dad told me then he was 84 hitting 86. He is a good pitcher but Crandall has the better defence.
I saw him (Bushnell) last year and he had pretty good defense behind him with Deen, Harp, and McDonald. Offense helped him a lot too. But he was a STUD. He throw hard and his demeanor and attitude on the mound were no joke. He seemed different the other day. Don't get me wrong, he no-hit us but he wasn't throwing all that hard compared to last year. I don't know if its his lack of confidence in what he has behind him or he's already looking to next year.
I'm surprised Rains swept the first round. This is going to be interesting...
I know both Bushnell and Gilbert. My son plays with Gilbert in the summer, and I have lived in Wills Point for a long time. Both are quality young men. Both are deserving of playing at the next level. I do believe that Gilbert throw a little harder, but have not seen Bushnell in a few years. When we played Crandall this year, I saw thier quality defense, they dont beat themselves. Our pitcher was able to keep them off balance for a majority of the game and they beat the foxes 2-1 at the Edgewood tournament. I have noticed a lot of pitchers velocity being down this year compared to last, dont' know why, just is. However the game between Crandall and Wills Point could be very interesting.
Saw where the game ended 2-1 in Crandall's favor. Must have been an excellent well pitched game on both sides.
WP jumped up 1-0 until the 4th when the Pirates tied it 1-1. It was like that until the 7th when Crandall scored to win 2-1. Bushnell threw well. WP's hitting (2 hits), defense (5 errors by my count), and baserunning (numerous mistakes) are VERY suspect. I've seen them twice and they have 6 hits in 14 innings and 20+ strikeouts. Everyone's take on them this year was they would have Bushnell and that's it. That's held true. They start several underclassmen but their inability to hit is crazy. Their firstbaseman had 5 K's in 2 games. Their big DH looked over-matched by Crandall's #2. There's only a couple of guys on that team that could start for Crandall, Rains, ....or maybe even Kaufman. Bushnell and the thirdbaseman. They are just NOT a playoff team. Just my opinion.....
Standings...
Rains 4-0
Crandall 4-1
Wills Point 2-3
Kaufman 2-3
Quinlan 0-5
I agree. Look at the games they have played this year against a quality teams. Lost and tied Van, no-hit by Sunnyvale, lost to Princeton (beat Princeton once on a fluke after being down 7-0), lost to Crandall twice, lost to Rains, lost to Mineola. They just aren't ready to win. Bushnell keeps them in games but their defense is atrocious. They have a few players that don't seem to care that much and others that have no talent. When they showed up against Quinlan, they were way over-confident....cocky even! Why?!?!?!?! Because they beat Dallas Samuell?!?!?! Wills Point has had a good program in the past but it looks like the talent pool is pretty shallow....
Kaufman beat Crandall?????? Interesting!!!
Well I'n not so sure you should be casting so many stones there QFHS.....
HUGE game tomorrow in Kaufman!! Crandall and Rains have all but clinched a spot. Kaufman and Wills Point fighting for 3rd spot. Wills Point won 1st game 11-1 but Kaufman basically gave it to them. 6
NO WAY WP wins that game!!!! Kaufman should have beat Rains in the first round of district and then beats Crandall.... Wills Point will be exposed.
Agreed. Their young eyes are killing them.
Someone tell me how it is a fluke being down 7 and coming back and winning?
wow - am amazed at the parents on this forum. Some comments are pretty harsh. WP has a pretty good team considering the ages of most playersn - yes they are young. There are some players that are actually better than they are playing. It has been a tough year with the new coach that seems to have beaten them all down with his negative comments. The kids do really like him but yet are frustrated at being told they are worthless when they make misakes. Mistakes have killed WP this year but they have struggled through to clinch 3rd. I hope all players return next year and they can have a better year than this year. Bushnell has pitched to his competetion and that Simmons kid has really stepped up to the plate. Hopefully he can return next year along with the other pitchers -Marble, Pemberton, Carroll and Wilcoxson and have a great season.

So everyone on here agrees there's not much talent there, and you claim the Coach is just hurting their feelings? Good logic.
