Whatever age a player is on May 1 will be his age for the remainder of the amateur baseball season (i.e, through the next April 30).

So if a player is 16 on May 1, and turns 17 AFTER May 1, he is still considered 16.

If a player turns 17 BEFORE May 1, he will be considered 17 for the rest of the summer (through the next April 30).

This is the same for all leagues that operate under USA Baseball.

...as gotwood4sale digs up pic of somebody chucking an I-95 sign on the highway...

You've got that right zomby. I was just hustling down I-95 towards Fredricksburg with a load of pekkerwood logs to sell when seemingly out of nowhere a big ol' red, white, and blue I-95 sign came flying right at the cab of my International 9400®. I stood on the brakes to avoid being tagged and look at the mess I made! I'm in the sleeper...wake me when it's over.

At 16U and above (high school age players) I think it's more important to start focusing on GRAD CLASS.

Most tournaments, ie PG, are listed as 16U or 2014 Grads, etc...
Here is one from PG for a 16U event: AGE LIMIT: 2014 Graduate or Born on/after May 1, 1995 GAMES

Other sanctioning bodies may just list tournaments as "underclassman" events so the age is totally thrown out the window.
