Are there any 16U teams in the Richmond VA, Morganton or Research Triangle area NC, Birmingham, AL, Atlanta, GA or the Jacksonville, FL area looking for players? My 15yo son started as a pitcher on his high school JV team last year (upper 70's 2 and 4 seam fast ball with a nice tail, curve with lots of motion, and a good change up) and is hoping to start Varsity as a sophomore this year. He's a late bloomer and never played travel ball before. He is 6'2 and almost 190 lbs, and is currently starting nose guard on the JV football team, so he can't play fall ball. I'd post a picture of him pitching last spring if I knew how.

interested mom,

We know who the top teams are in all those areas. Or you can look many of them up by going to this site. Here

Sounds like your son is very talented, but to me a late bloomer is not someone 15 or 16 years old who is starting for the varsity as a sophomore. Many players do not “blossom” until they are out of high school. Those are late bloomers ie Billy Wagner.

Best of luck
Thanks for the help PGStaff and BillBill.

As for not being a "late bloomer" -- he hasn't ever played summer ball, so he is not as well known as kids who have played in competitive summer leagues for years. I keep telling myself that the good thing about him not making "all stars" when he was playing LL is that because he hasn't played year round baseball, he has had the chance to do other things (like golf and football) and still loves baseball best -- and he hasn't had the opportunity to get either burned out or worn out yet.

The bad thing is that he loves it, and really wanted to play all those summers, and he really needs to play this summer if he wants to improve, but we don't know how to get him on a team.
