Once again this year, The Georgetown Baseball Club is making available the historic and now refurbished Guy Mason baseball field located on Wisconsin Ave., in the heart of Georgetown.

These are NON league games, meaning you can throw a team together and come and play just once, or you can play every Friday night under the lights. Umpires are provided.

The competition is great with top players coming together from various schools and locations, such as St. John's, Wilson, Magruder, etc.

There is plenty of great seating and the ambience of surrounding Georgetown is fantastic.

A large grill is on the premises for cookouts, or you can choose from one of the many restaurants that are within a few yards of the field.

For more information call Dave Minich at 202.333.2042.

Dave,

From the 1950s' thru late 1980's Guy Mason (next to the National Observatory...& Good Guys) hosted many Men's & Women's Fastpitch City and Regional Tournaments.
Guy Mason had a skinned infield, lacked dugouts,
lights were at best, poor, and the dimensions were not large enough for men's (or women's) baseball.

Good to hear that it's been refurbished, but what's changed at Guy Mason?

cheers
Bear

OBTW: The National Observatory and Guy Mason Rec Center are NOT at the heart of Georgetown.

For the past two years Dave's had kids from almost every school in the area participate...St. Albans, SJC, Magruder, Watkins Mill, Gburg, Wootton, Good Counsel, Northwest, Laurel etc. Even a few of the coaches have taken the field for an inning or two. It's a great time for all. It’s not required that the teams be official, rather you can mix and match and many times it’s a few dads that manage the teams.

Sounds like fun...just wondering how the high school coaches feel about the players being out there also wondering how the pitching works...just curious
Good question!

The Friday night games do not start until the end of April. Players who are slated to pitch in any rotation Saturday or early the next week should not pitch. This gives position players the opportunity to take the mound.

Coaches typically do not have an issue, especially JV coaches. Last year we had one game that featured 1/2 a dozen All-Met (a combo of 1st, 2nd and honorable mention) players and their coaches didn't have an issue. On coach actually managed a couple of innings.

Once the game starts you typically get a nice crowd watching because of all the Georgetown foot traffic.

Dave Minich, Barney Shapiro, Bob Haldeman and Brendan Sullivan have done a great job coordinating these types of events down in the DC area.
2 Years ago, I played several games on that field through NVTBL. I was lucky to get a friday night game where there ended up being a huge crowd. Its a great atmosphere where a bunch of random people going out to dinner will stop by and go crazy if they see a great play.
The only complaint is that from what I remember the field was a little small, but from driving past it recently it looks like they have kept it up nicely.
Wow! I am relatively new to this web-site and think it's great. Can't believe posts like the ones from Bear and CapitalBB are from adults!! And to think that 12 and 13 yr. olds read these posts! Can we just stick to baseball and not this other ego-boosting stuff? Baseball has gone thru enough as far as smut is concerned... let's keep things honorable!! "respect the game", please! The idea of this thread (as is seen in the title) was to promote a neat evening of wooden bat baseball, and unfortunately it slipped into something else.

I sincerely apologize and I want to thank you for pointing out what's truly important.

Now with that said, you should give Dave a call if you're interested in your son taking some time behind the dish on warm Friday night under the lights in Georgetown.

Sincerely,
Shane

Good Job...maybe Bear can delete his post too!
For the record (as moderator has deleted several postings within)....CapitolBaseball has apologized for his error from a mistaken identity.

As CapitalBaseball, thru a separate correspondance has written "Everyone I talked to assured me you've got a good heart and you do what you do for your love of kids and the game."

Next Meeting at Good Guys, 8:00 pm sharp.
Of course that moderator is not invited at this time! lol
