Driller vs Pony express banged for rain after 2 and half with Drillers winning 8-0, Kenner Berry (Atlee) and Jordan Sergent (Atlantic Shores) both went yard. Doubt they will complete this game as it will not change standings, PG has already entered it as a completed game Drillers are 5-1 and lead their pool. game today against Houston Heat Black.
Congrats to the Drillers for making it out of pool play - it was no joke this year to have to finish 1st of 8 teams in a pool to advance and it is quite an accomplishment.

Having played that group a number of times over the past 2 seasons I am not surprised - very good club that plays the game the right way.

Well Done!!!

Hey PIS,
Is that zach rice?

Yes, Zach played with the Driller some last summer before joining EvoShield Canes.

Zach played with The Pirates/ Coach McKinney last year before the Canes. If he he played with the Drillers it was maybe ....once or twice if that.

It was a tough year to qualify for the playoffs, as the pool play round was extended to 7 games (formerly 5) and only pool winners could advance (no wild cards as in years past).

Congrats to the Drillers for being the only VA-based team to make the playoff rounds by winning their pool with a 6-1 record.

Finishing in 2nd place in their pools were the Canes' top team, Richmond Braves National, Orioles Scout team, and Va. Cardinals. 5 of the 14 VA teams finished near the top of their groupings. Not too bad a showing for the state's players.

Among the other 9 VA entries:

RBA West Elite finished 3d in its pool, while Canes North and NVTBL's Blue and Red teams finished 4th in each of theirs. NVTBL Green finished 5th, Rawlings TP Elite and Va. Diamonds 6th. Richmond Braves 17u finished last in an 8-team pool while Richmond Braves American finished last in an oversized, 10-team pool.

I think it's as Midlo Dad stated. The Evoshield Canes finished 6-1 giving up a total of 12 runs (which would have been good enough to win 13 of the other 31 pools) and would have certainly garnered a wildcard if rules were similar to past tourneys. They lost a 3-2 pitcher's duel to eventual pool winner Columbia Angels who wound up seeded #4 after pool play and made it to the tourney semifinals.
