Looks like a great tournament Jack. Son played for the Bombers last year and a different team the prior year in the 15U Caba tourney. While there are a couple of strong teams in the CABA tournament that could challenge those in the USSSA, overall I thought the level of competition in USSSA was better. Once again, it loos like a terrific event.
FastballDad - thank you for the well wishes.

MCYSA has not replaced anything. We are the same not-for-profit that has run the international event in CL and McHenry County for ALL 19 years. Utrip and caba are paid vendors. We dropped one for the other and the reason is for exactly what you spoke about.

The last year with caba we had 46 teams of which 28 ?? were from Illinois. All you had to do to get into it if you were from Illinois was play in a tournament or two and you were in. Go 0 for whatever and you were in. It was much less diverse the last three years before we made the change.

2011 is 36 teams with a max of twelve from Illinois - two in each pool of six. The non-host Illinois teams MUST qualify. That is a max of 33% of the field being Illinois versus the 60+% that we saw in the last years before the switch.

Regarding quality - without a doubt, last year was our strongest event top to bottom ever. We had teams that did not make the Gold bracket last year that could have been top 12 finishers in numerous previous years. I have no reason to believe that 2011 will be any different then 2010.

We made the change for three reasons: diversity of teams, quality of teams and to give value for being a host organization - ie. to not allow every Illinois team in just because... The host teams are the ones that supply the volunteers and they supply the families that home stay the international kids and why should they do that if any other local team can get in by just paying the entry fee.

We most certainly believe that we have accomplished all three of those goals with the change from one paid supplier to another.

Thanks again for the well wishes. For the 15U Illinois teams the list of qualifiers is on the Illinois Utrip site or there is a link on our site to them as well www.MCYSASports.org

I hope that everyone has a great season - Regards Jack
