My son received his first offer, it was from a top division 2 program. It was a very good offer, and they would like him to sign early. Our problem is he also has interest from alot of other schools, including division 1 programs,no offers at the moment. Would it be a mistake for us to wait on these other schools to see what they offer? I know we have time before the early signing period .

JDad, first of all, congrats on your son's offer!

Last month Midlo Dad posted some excellent advice for a recruit trying to see if his top choice school was interested in him. I believe the following email would fit your situation as well:

E-mail: "Dear Coach _____,

"As you know I have long been very interested in your school and your baseball program. I have appreciated your taking the time to evaluate me and to consider me.

"Recently, I received a substantial offer from another school's baseball team. They have asked that I respond to them by _____.

"I would greatly prefer to come to your school and come to your program. However, if you believe that you are not heading in that direction, I would need to take advantage of my next best opportunity.

"If you could let me know candidly whether you foresee any opportunity for me with your program, I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you again for your consideration and for your help with this difficult decision."
JDad -- congradulations on your sons offer. It is a very exciting time, although somewhat stressful time too.

My son was in a simular situation this summer. He followed Midlo Dad's advise, except he actually called his top chioce coach on the phone and told him of the other offer. He was also honest with the coach who made the original offer about the fact that we were waiting to hear from his top choice school. In the end he accepted the original offer. I beleived he couldn't go wrong with being honest and in the end it worked out for him.

Good luck with you decision!
