Thanks, CADad. They have been added.
How much excitement do you think has been in the Stock household with two sons drafted?

Congrats to all those hard workers out there that made it, the hours at the field, the sleepless nights before a big game and the time management nightmares ....and I mean the parents (LOL).
NY had 35 signees and 10 were HS, and I know at least 5 more to go as a free agent signing. All in all it was a great 3 days.

I may have been the only one listening, but prior to their last pick the Angels thanked the comissioners office, then dedicated their '09 draft to Nick Adenhart.

I thought it was a very classy move on the part of the Angels....

Here's a story I found on the Cards site about CD's and Puma's sons.

Thnaks for the articles. Sounds like both boys are happy and ready to give pro ball a shot.I hope they have a lot of fun no matter how things turn out. One day at a time, one hurdle at a time.great job to both of them.
Thats GREAT STUFF! I enjoyed the Video! Congratulations again to these two young men and everyone else whose sons' name was called this year. And we can relate very closely to Tyler, not knowing if he would ever find a home. Although my guy is just a Freshman, he has seen 5 of his local peers get selected these past two years. Coming off injury set him back a bit. We figure that this week began his preperation for next years draft. That I believe is the only constructive way to approach it.
TPM - thanks for posting that!!!
I didn't realize there was a video in the article. At the end of the video, it shows my son hitting a homerun. It was off of Tennessee's Nick Hernandez who was drafted a couple of round earlier than my son. Hernandez was ahead of him 0-2 to begin the at bat. My son worked the count to 3-2 and fouled off several wicked breaking balls on the outer half of the plate. They tried to sneak a fast ball in on him and he turned on it. The Tampa scout was in attendance that evening and he said to himself (after that at bat) that he was going to do everything in his power to see that my son was drafted by their organization. Like the saying goes, you never know who is watching...

He only got about 450,000 less than TPM's son
Seriously, the Braves told him that if he went after the 10th round with their organization that he would be getting $1,000. As he said, he feels fortunate for the opportunity that he got
CD,
Not sure why the mention of DK's bonus, but, FWIW, very interesting article on one of the Cards sites about players in AA doing very well, lower picks and FA, they all view themselves the same, as prospects, the only difference is the signing bonus.
You only need one scout to really beleive in your ability, I think that I mentioned that.
The opportunity is there, and I am sure your son will make the most of it.
Tampa Bay plays in good leagues, the NYP league and FL state league very nice and competitive to play in, plus spring training in FL, YOU are gonna like that!

Had an interesting thought last nite while watching DAN BARD pitch for the RedSox as a closer---he is a few years out of college, no big to do regarding his ability--BUT last night he cruised 97 to 99 against the Phillies in a closing role---looking at what Strasburg has ahead of him it will be interesting to see his development--As John Hart said the other day MLB pitchers need more than just heat because MLB hitters can hit a "jet airliner" as it passed by
Bard is doing it--can Strasburg?

One never knows what will happen but Strasburg has been so impressive because he has much more than just heat.
CD,
Just have to tell you something from a mom's perspective. I know this has nothing to do with baseball but...
In Tyler's photo on his Coastal bio, he is a good looking young man (and looks tough). But in the video in the link above, he is WAY handsome! What a good looking smile and beautiful eyes - probably takes after his mom. Wonderful clip of him talking about signing; I can tell he is a very nice young man from a great family.

Best wishes to Tyler!

Don't want to hijack the thread...but it is draft related...Agree with CADad, while remains to be seen (it's a a very long, long way from here to there, just ask UVA)...
...but having watched Strasberg a few times over the last few years...here is the pure beauty of what he brings. First, as impressive as his pure numerical velocity is, it is the other stuff that makes him so good. In one outing last year, I saw him throw 7 innings, strike out 12, and he didn't throw a single fastball in the zone. Used it exclusively as a chase pitch. He is both smart enough, good enough, and well coached enough to realize that velocity is but a single part of a much bigger package. Second, his velocity is so smooth and easy that his 99 looks like another pitchers 93. Very deceptive.
Will be an interesting ride, but for pure ability he is hard to bet against. The question may be how he handles the mental game: the expectations, the pressure, the certain moments of challenge and failure.

A kid from my school is being offered $150,000 as a 16th rd. draft pick.
