I first met Sean Caron when he was 9, I was coaching a local team and I had drafted this 9 year old hyper kid with an absolute boat load of talent. I coached him that entire year and what a great kid he was even at 9 year olds and man did he love playing baseball. For me it is great to see such a great and talented person achieve something as special as making a D1 Roster. I am really pulling for him I hope that he has 4 great years at URI.
Logan Gillis, Merrimack/Lawrence Academy & Sean Lyons, Bedford/Trinity, at this point both look to get playing time. The Coach will make decisions on Red-Shirting after their Florida trip in Feb/March. Logan should get time at 3B and some at SS. Sean should get time in the OF and some at P. Currently they have 34 Players on the roster.

Quests: Does Ferriter still play for UConn? I knew he tried the football route. Just curious if he made it back on the diamond. I'm hoping he did.

I heard that Sylvester- Franklin, transferred out of BC. True? Anyone know where.
Billy Ferriter was down at Extra Innings during Winter break hitting with Brad Zappanes, Joe Breen, Ryan Gendron. He said he was back working out with UCONN. He's on the roster on the UCONN website. I'd like to see how well he does at the college level

I'm curious why would someone leave Boston College to go to SNHU. Just seems like everyones 1st choice would be to try and play in the ACC. Doesn't this kind of thing happen after you went to a school for a year and than transfer out because things just didn't work out as you expected??

There was an article a few weeks back in the Telegraph on Ferriter. He is on the roster and has a good shot at starting in the outfield. His injury precludes him from playing football again but not baseball.

I could see a kid like Sylvester trnasferring from BC to SNHU for a few reasons. Found BC too tough academically, found that playing time would be an issue there. Also he is from Franklin and used to being a big fish in a small pond and found himself a little fish in a big pond.....some kids can't handle the pressure. These are all guesses as I do not know the young man at all. Could be a totally non-baseball reason for all I know, just giving examples of why a kid would leave a D1 program.
Lots of kids are told before the winter break that they may be facing a redshirt situation and leave. Others get their 1st semester grades and find out that although they are eligible to play, the 2nd semester is gonna be real tough and opt out. Other times, they just see the writing on the wall for the first time and realize they may be in over their heads.

Logan Gillis played for me after meeting him here on the hsbaseballweb. What a great kid, awesome family. He accepted Coach McFee's offer that summer and will be a solid player at NE. He is one tough kid who plays hard every inning. He leaves it all on the field.

Checked the Elon update on another site and there was no mention of Clark for this season. Thats not to say when he gets a chance he doesn'tput himself in a good spot.

He came in and worked with us almost every day he was home. The kid is a STUD athlete - MLB tools. The ball makes a different sound off his bat. If he can find consistency and rhythm at the plate, watch out. He is going to hit some balls very far, but the question will be if he can do it with any regularity. He's a great kid, great work ethic, attitude, etc. I wish him the best and will be checking UConn's page and keeping tabs on facebook.
One kid I am disappointed to see left off of this list is Garrett Cole. He was always over looked at Trinity High because of Dylan Clark. I think he is a hard working kid with a tremendous amount of talent. Hopefully he will be given the chance to show it at UMass Lowell, but as some of you guys said earlier it is tough to get your shot as a freshman.

He's only left off the list because a guy like you is watching other people discuss players that they have personally seen play but doesn't say anything until its time to start complaining about who was "left off". This is a discussion board, none of us have seen everyone.

I thought Cole was the better pitcher of the two their senior year personally. It should be interesting to see how they both do over the next four years.
Ferriter is definitely playing for UCONN this season. He started one game and went 1-3 with a BB and a sb. He must have been in the OF as he only had 2 chances the whole game. Feehan has pitched in one game so far, 2 innings O hits O runs 0 BB's and 3K's. He did hit one batter..lol

Clark has started off slow for Elon getting knocked around a bit in his 2 appearances so far. Coles hasn't played yet in U Lowell's 1st 3 games.

I really hope Billy gets more time and more ABs. He is an absolute stud athletically and if he can find comfort in the batters box, he will be scary.

Also, not a 2009 grad but Zapenas is playing against the Sox tonight at 6 PM on NESN. Can somebody DVR it for me!?!
I saw a bit of the Sox / BC game last night. Zapenas helped turn a double play in the second...showed a nice strong arm and good foot work around the bag in turning it. His 1st at bat he took the first pitch he saw and sent a shot back up through the middle which hit Tazenawa (sp) who picked it up and threw out Brad. It was a hard hit ball..bet it left a mark!!

Mike Fransoso (Portsmouth NH), UMaine's freshman starting 2nd Baseman, has been named America East Rookie of the Week twice already. He is batting .317 in 15 games and leads the team with 14 walks.

Also, Steve Perakslis (Abington MA) was named America East Pitcher of the Week this week. He was the winning pitcher in UMaine's 17-3 win over Georgetown He allowed 1 ER in 7 innings, struck out 11, had 1 walk and gave up only 2 hits.
Amazing start for Anthony Gomez:
This is a rather amazing story. Vanderbilt Freshman and former Don Bosco High School, Nutley, NJ, shortstop now has 23 hits in his first 37 college at-bats (as of Sunday night March 22, 2010).

This is in the SEC - arguably the best baseball conference in the country. Gomez was not an immediate starter. Vandy had a senior returning at SS but when he was injured for a few games, Gomez got a chance and has forced coach Corbin to find a spot for him. He has played both SS and 2B through their first 20 games.

After a weekend series against Alabama, the 18th ranked Commodores are now 16-4. Gomez went 3 for 5 on Sunday and LOWERED his batting average! He is now hitting .622.
