A bat is a personal item. Someone could recommend a bat their stud son uses and it could be the worst bat for you.
axu ... follow his advice! Also you need, at the very least, a layman's understanding of the categories of bats available; alloy, composite/alloy hybrid combos, and composites. How much you can or are willing to budget will be a factor as the aforementioned categories get progressively more expensive. The type of hitter you are can also affect the decision. Larger, stronger players, often prefer the 1-piece or "stiffer" designed bats. While others prefer the bats that "flex" and a 2-piece construction.
There are bat blogs out there that you should read. My son always works with wood (H.S. player)in Summer/Fall leagues, drills, B.P. cage work, etc. In-Season game bat is a composite (likes the Easton Synergy better than the Demarini CF4)when it's temperate out. Early season games, when below 60 degrees, he will use a Hybrid (favors the TPX H2 over the Demarini Voodoo but they are very similar) which he also uses during on-field BP practice sessions.
Most can't afford all the options so choose what fits your needs, pocketbook and feels good! A good hitter will be successful with any of them!
