My son, a 2011 RHP, is focused right now on West Coast colleges – we live in southern California. However, he is gaining interest in going back east, so we are now planning a trip to look at schools back East in late July. If the thought of going to school and playing baseball back east becomes of strong appeal to our son at that point, we would send him to attend the Headfirst Honor Roll in Jupiter in November to see what options transpire.

My question – would a fair percentage of coaches at this camp still be actively considering 2011 recruits, given that it is in November?

Thanks in advance for your thoughts.

Agree with all posters here. Get in front of these schools sooner rather than later. If Head First is the camp that you have selected based upon the schools participating get front of them now.

Most are academically minded which means in some way or another Admissions will be involved in the acdemic/athletic admitting decision. You will want to be in front of this, rather than getting what is left over by Fall in my opinion.

My son attended Head First last year, and it was one of the best events he attended in his baseball career.

Also some of the former participating Head First schools have formed another camp GPA (Grades plus Athletics) for academically minded baseball players. My understanding is GPA is UPenn, Yale, Brown, Cornell, Georgetown, Richmond and Wake Forest.

Best of luck!

Well, I thought I'd update you good folks on our decision.

We just booked the trip to head back for Headfirst III in Long Island in early August. Then, we'll spend a few days visiting schools from NY to MA to get a better feel for the area. Our son is RHP, 6' 3" still pretty immature physically. Pitches at 82 - 84 with movement and command. Velocity is just now emerging, though so its very hard to project how that will develop in coming years. He is currently targeting D3 as the best fit baseball-wise. It should be a great week.

I wonder if there will be any other So Cal boys at this event.

Thanks.

We were aware of the Rocklin Headfirst location, but the Long Island event listed nearly double the number of attending schools. There were some last minute additions to the Rocklin coaching roster, including a couple from schools of great interest, but it was too late to change. Even still, the Long Island events host far more schools. Plus, our kid will get a feel for the East.
