All I know is that every year I only hear about it AFTER the teams are picked and the event is over.

Also, the website is terrible and provides no information.

Got a chuckle out of that. You have to check the local paper, website, etc. for the tryout dates. It's usually around the end of the HS season. If you go to the website now, you can see who the regional coaches were (to include contact info) which usually doesn't change from year to year.
