Due to new recruiting rules and new coaches, mid D1 programs are looking for players. Probably everyone is needing players would be my guess unless they are P5 programs.
Not too many want to play for a new coach, but it could be used to one's advantage.

I would start by researching what programs have new coaches. Start with the programs your son is interested in or in your geographic area.
