What have 22 college AB’s taught my redshirt fresman son? ...
-You CAN survive living on your own away from home.
-Serious injuries can be overcome.
-You can get a ticket for having your tires turned the wrong way against the curb.
-Be prepared and ready to take advantage of opportunity when it presents itself.
-There are a million ways to eat a chicken breast... and Top Ramen.
-Roommates can work out their differences.
-How to be a successful hitter when always behind in the count (he’s required to take ‘til he gets a strike and it has been first-pitch FB right down the gut every time).
-Coin Op laundry machines are expensive.
-Being faithful to physical therapy rehab pays off.
-Dirty bathrooms are disgusting.
-His parents were pretty darn good to him and home is a really good place.
-Be a good teammate, always.
-A dollar can be stretched.
-Your car stalling on a busy freeway of a big city is a different experience than your car stalling somewhere in your cozy hometown of 7,000 people.
-Yes, you can balance a full school schedule, college sport and a part time job on the side.
-Where the “ON” button is on the vacuum cleaner.
-When someone tells you that you probably won’t ever be able to do something again, it’s very rewarding to prove them wrong.
-You can’t do all the things your roommates want to do... and shouldn’t even consider most of them.
-Being 30 seconds late for 6am conditioning = 4:30am conditioning.
-Free time is a precious commodity.
-Staying positive, patient and focused pays off.
-Athletic tape is magical.
-2nd floor apartment with a view – cool! Having to hoist the oversized couch and home-made dining table over the balcony – not cool!
-No matter how hard you work and prepare, opportunities come on their own time schedule.
-Other people really matter.
...so far, some great learning per AB!
