Well the IHSA has managed to make our regular seasons meaningless for the state tournament for this year. In 3A for example 2008 Supersectional opponents (Glenbard South and Crystal Lake Central) have been assigned to the same 4 team Regional with Wheaton Academy and St. Francis. Everything has been put back to geography again. The success you may have during the season will only benefit you in regards to the 3 other teams. You would never see this happen in Football. The IHSA has made sure that the public league teams don't have to leave the city thus destroying any kind of "true seed" situation. How disappointing to know that you are stuck in these 4 team quadrants now year after year. BOOOOOORING. I guess your odds of winning a sectional championship go up or down based on where you reside, not solely on how good you are. Maybe the IHSA should let our coaches association run the tournament. At least we wouldnt be lazy and take the easy way out. There is no excuse to make these assignments when some schools havent even played a game yet. Our tournament should be a "True Seed" in the Chicago area at both the 3A and 4A levels. Geography is not an issue up North. Ive never been one to duck competition and we play a great schedule but scheduling a tournament in a way that is "convenient" does not speak of fairness while certain programs will be humping up on city teams and sliding deep into the tournament with little effort. Before you judge this email and say "If youre good you should not worry about who you play or when", go on the IHSA website and look at this regional and compare it to the Nazareth Sectional complex.

GBS I totally agree. Personally I didn't mind when we seeded Sectionals under the two class system. Teams were rewarded for having quality seasons. Now you could have a 30 win season and be worse off than someone who had a 18 win season simply based on your geography. There are some regionals that have 4 teams that could win several of the other regionals in the state.

Not to mention that if you are in a regional with 5 teams, chances are that you will have a team who puts together a pretty decent season and would be rewarded for that if we seeded the sectional, playing in a pigtail game. That means they will need 3 wins to win the regional where another team who is subjectively voted ahead of them will need only 2 wins to win a regional.

I am scratching my head over this one a bit.

I hope you are saying that Naz sectional is loaded because - Clemente, Whitney Young, De La Salle, Mt. Carmel, St. Rita, St. Ignatius, OPRF and Simeon are good programs.

The lowly city schools will all play in "play-in" games -- just like they always have.
1st off: Ratboy / Those are great programs and they are also in 4A. Nazareth is in 3A and you will find no such teams in that Sectional Complex. As for how to fix this is simple. The TBA sectional and the Rochelle sectional should be sectional "complexes" meaning that all teams are seeded and regional pairings are derived from that seeding. Geography is not an issue in these Sectionals. To pair teams up in regional brackets without taking in to account a teams efforts during a season is criminal. A year ago this was truly seeded but we have a new person in charge of baseball this year who incidentally doesnt answer his phone very often.
All I'm asking is for fairness and for the best 3A teams to meet deeper in the tournament.

You could probably determine the groupings in that one without much effort ... very geographically diverse.
