Tryouts have begun with another winter storm approaching, it is time for Baseball. It should be a very interesting year with the new VHSL alignments. Below is the 3A East Conference 27. Do we have any predictions out there or comments on the new conference.

Culpeper should win that conference with ease, JM, MP, and B'ville are especially down. KR and Spotsy are so so, not a very strong conference.
Oldschooler, were you in the Battlefield or Evergreen district last year? Spotsy was competitive last year but I am not sure about KR , B'ville is skill recovering from the Patriot HS split.
CCHS 9 KG 3 3/14 (CCHS picked up 4 runs on the last at bat). CCHS did not use the any of the projected starting pitchers but have a deep pitching staff. Nice job
CCHS 9 Briarwood (5A) 10 (10 innings) 3/15 - everyone played well. Two fun scrimmages in 2 days, snow stay away.

Kettle Run 3 CULP Zero,
Heading into the final week or so of the season, looks like Kettle Run is the most likely to win the regular season in this division. They are still undefeated in conference play and can take the title by winning out. They play Culpeper again tomorrow, and I think they clinch with a win, but not positive of that. Been a tough season with all the weather related postponements.
Culp 7 KR 5 - Culp takes the Conference with the tie breakers and wins its first Conference Title or old District Title, since who knows how long. This group of players did win the JV District Title 2 years ago. Great game!
CCHS 5 Spotsy 2 - Top of the 6 , lightening delay until 8:00pm. Game resumed Wilson with the win and Butler with the save.
Kettle Run vs Brentsville was postponed until tomorrow due to the local storms
Kettle Run and Brentsville rained out again. They will try tomorrow (Friday), which will push the conference title game back to Saturday
Kettle Run and Culpeper round three today for the conference tournament title. Should be a good game!
Curious as to why they are playing today? Conf 28 (Loudoun Valley 12, William Monroe 1) final was last night. Assumed they'd be on same schedule. These 3A Conferences are still deciding championships and seeds while most other classes are into regionals. I am not sure but heard that Valley gets the runner up from Conf 27..? Thanks, that makes sense but how do they figure out # 1 seed between conferences?
According to my son's coach, the conference tourney winner hosts the loser of the other conference championship game. So, if that is accurate, today's winner would host Monroe and the loser travels to Loudon Valley. If the two tournament winners meet in the regional championship, I'm not sure who would host

CULP chose not to put their hard throwing closer in at 4-3, Top of the 6 and it cost them the win. Kettle Run wins 8-4.
Kettle Run scored 3 in the bottom of the seventh to walk off vs. William Monroe. They play Poquoson (sp?) on Wednesday...not sure where yet.
Excellent game at LV, a total of 6 hits total in the game. One error made the difference and LV is a very discipline team with good sportsmanship. Culp was up 1-0 into the 5th, 2 doubles tied the game.
That game may be just what LV needed. They have had quite the dominant season (esp when not playing 4-6A teams ) with video game stats on O and D. That was a tight game against an impressive team. Tip of the cap to Culpeper.
Monroe-Kettle Run game was also very well played. Pretty good pitching by both teams, and very solid defense. Kettle Run trailed 2-0 going into bottom of 7 but rallied nicely. Proud to say my son got the walk-off to help them advance to next round!! Don't know a lot about Poquoson, our next opponent. They beat Jefferson HS from Richmond 19-0, but that was a team that lost 13 regular season games and got hot in the tourney, so not sure how much of a barometer they can be.

Head Coach Joe Cralle announced last night he will not return next season.
JM will be looking for a new head coach. Coach Cralle is looking to spend time with his newborn son. Should be interesting to see who applies for the job, inheriting a team that started 8 sophomores and placed two on all conference team.
Very tough lost for Kettle Run to Poquoson last night. Great pitcher's duel with very good defense by both teams. We led 1-0 going into the seventh, but allowed Poquoson to tie it up on a controversial call. With bases loaded and one out a ground ball to second almost resulted in a double play, but umpire made the safe call at first. It was very close. I thought he was out, but I recognize I am biased! But that allowed the tying run to score and send it to extra innings.We then allowed three runs in the ninth. In the bottom of the ninth we loaded the bases with one out. Roland Buffington hit a flare into right field, but the second baseman made a great diving catch, He then had the presence to jump up and get the runner at second before he could get back to the bag to end the game. I hated to see my son's team lose, but as a fan had to appreciate the great ending to a very good ball game.
