Hey,
I am a 3B that has played mostly utility (1st, 2nd, and 3rd with a little catcher), but I have played mostly 3B. I think that I am having problems with just basics, but the real problem is my throws. It seems that the ball gets out of my hand fine, but it loops and then just dies after about 50 feet or so. Does anybody know how to help me? Also it seems that my foot work needs work. Can someone explain to me how after fielding a routine ground ball out in front, a fielder moves to get ready for the throw? I know its a lot but I need a lot of help.
Thanks

I'll take a stab at it.

First off you have to be down and in the ready position to recieve a hard shot right at you just before the pitcher throws the ball.
Feet spread, knee's bent, slightly leaning forward.
Able to move in either direction left are right.
Backhand the balls on your right, Set your right leg and stride toward 1st base with your throw.
Balls hit to your left, try to catch on first bounce as you move the the left. Square to bag, set stride to 1st base. throw the ball.
Bunted ball down the 3rd base line, Charge the ball if hit softly catch in bare hand make the throw across the body. No time to set and throw.

It sounds like your not useing your legs and core to help throw the ball, Useing all arm??
You have to set that back leg quickly(RT. Leg) to make a strong throw to 1st.
Balance in your defensive stance is Key.
Hands/Glove out front. Absorb the hard hit ball. (No stiff mitt.)

Keep working at it.

I often remind players that they should field with their feet. This includes getting in the best position to field the ball (i.e., between the shoulders/knees rather than backhand), getting the feet (and body) squared to the throwing target, and using a "block" step to initiate the throw.

This takes time to absorb, but it works.
