Question-He played at a D1 in Texas his Freshman year.  Grades weren't good so moved to a JUCO in Texas. Got a few looks from scouts and D1 coach invited him back to that school if he gets the credits. Grades are ok but barely hanging on around a 2.0 GPA.  Won't have enough credits to graduate from JUCO in May. Academic counselors put him in classes he doesn't even need and didn't put him in those he DOES need. Small JUCO, don't know what they're doing.  What are the options for next year?  If he doesn't have an AA degree, or 60 credits, and still hanging around a 2.0, Is there ANYWHERE he can play? D2, D3? Coach is new, not in good health, and no help at all. He's not a superstar, but a decent pitcher, and just not a great student.  Help!

The lack of an AA degree doesn't matter at D2, D3, or NAIA institutions.  He also doesn't need an AA he has the grades/credits to return to his original D1.  However, a 4-2-4 to any other D1 does require an AA degree.

D2, D3 both require a 2.0 GPA and an average of 12 transferable credit hours per term.  He needs to have attended the JC for 2 semesters or 3 quarters.  NAIA requires a total of 48 (72 for quarter system) hours to be eligible for the third year of competition.
