Here is a situation I was called about but am not sure about the answer. Player A was a qualifier and attended his D1 in the fall of freshman year. Mid year he transfered out to a JUCO where he played in the spring. He is now looking at seeral other D1's (not the original school). The question is can he transfer mid year (the following Dec) and play at a D1 that spring if: He has spent 1 year in residance at the Juco. He graduates with his "AA" from the Juco in Dec since he will take 15-18 credits during the summer ?

I'm checking around and as always, this is a great source of information.

No, a tranfer student to a D1 needs to be enrolled full-time during the fall term to be eligible in the spring.

The general rule is: "14.5.1 Residence Requirement—General Principle. ... In baseball and basketball, a transfer student-athlete who satisfies the applicable transfer requirements or qualifies for an exception as set forth in this section, but initially enrolls as a full-time student after the first term of the academic year shall not be eligible for competition until the ensuing academic year."

Article 14.5.6 specifically covers 4-2-4 transfers, and the basic rule is repeated: "14.5.6.2 Baseball and Basketball— Midyear Enrollee. In baseball and basketball, a student who satisfies the provisions of Bylaw 14.5.6, but initially enrolls at a certifying institution as a full-time student after the conclusion of the institution’s first term of the academic year, shall not be eligible for competition until the ensuing academic year."
