Looking to take a 4 day umpire school in March in CT(my first ever). Do you feel like you get enough knowledge from this type of schooling verses the 5 week courses you can take down in Florida?

The five week school is generally open to anyone who can pay the tuition, but it is aimed at people (usually young people) who have done enough umpiring to decide they are ready to quit their day jobs to pursue careers as umpires.
For your situation--a dad who is getting into umpiring as his son moves through youth baseball--a four-day camp sounds like a more suitable training opportunity.
I also recommend you find out which umpire associations operate in your area and ask them about their first-year training programs. Many of those are free and are designed for peoplelike you.
