Is the waiver in effect now? If so, how many players who didn't play this fall because they thought they were done, are on the phone now with their former coach asking to come back? So if they do comeback, now you have freshman now who are going to be redshirted or told to go play juco now. If this is effective now, this could get ugly immediately.

If not now, then soon!

that article brings up a great point.  It is going to have a dramatic effect on high school kids.

i wonder what long term effect this is going to have on college sports.

MLB has wanted college baseball to turn into their minor leagues for years. It’s finally happening. It used to be if a kid did t sign at twenty-one he was a late sign. Now let the kid develop first five or so years in college ball.

"The NCAA Division I Board of Directors granted a waiver to permit student-athletes who attended and competed at a non-NCAA school for one or more years to remain eligible and compete in 2025-26"

So does this also apply to players who played at NAIA schools?

Good question. But, at D1, don't you have to be a student in the fall to be eligible for the spring?

From what I've read, it only applies to players who would have exhausted their eligibility in 2024-2025 NCAA calendar so for baseball it wouldn't apply to players who were done in 2024.

Now, all it takes is for a someone to sue and the NCAA will generally fold or lose.

It’s not just that, it’s all the kids currently in juco who are now going to play for an additional 4 years, taking opportunity away from hs kids

It has not been ruled across the board that JuCo participation will not count against the years of NCAA eligibility. A temporary injunction has been granted for one player in a different sport. And as @d-mac stated another year of eligibility has been granted to JuCo players who stood to be done at the end of the ‘25 spring season. None of this means that every player in JuCo will get 4 years of NCAA eligibility when they move on. It does mean that the bar to enter college baseball has been raised - again. I have been trying to tell y’all that things are not going back to the way it was before Covid. This is a thinning of the herd and it’s all by design.

Keep in mind that many people that are posting about this topic on social media platforms (other than HSBBW) are trying to manipulate the chaos for personal gain. Scouting services, personal trainers & instructors, etc are trying to convince people that their services are needed now more than ever. People need to think critically before they react.

Agree with the above.  As mentioned there is always someone whispering in the players ear.
