Camels, I think so many things depend on this situation. A fit is a very individual thing.

When you say walk on at a four year school, what kind of school are you talking about? A walk on can develop differently and have big differences in opportunities depending on the school. I have known kids that have chosen to walk on somewhere because it was their dream school. Playing at that particular school was simply what mattered most to them.

Do you have offers from any JUCOs. My son is a freshman at a JUCO program. There are 34 kids on the roster and most could play DI ball. I'm not sure I'd want to walk on there if playing time was what I was looking for.

One of the best pieces of advice my son received when younger was to consider schools at every level. There are schools that meet most players needs at every level - location, price, playing time, majors, etc. You need to consider and make a list of what is important to you and your family.

Depending on what year you are in HS - I would suggest getting some good evaluations of your ability, begin exploring schools at various levels of play, and begin contacting schools that fit your needs/desires.

3.9sec,

If you hang around the HSBBWeb for any length of time, you will find one of the basic tenents for improving as a player, is to play. Your assesment of JUCO players not being as good as players at a four year school misses the mark for accuracy by a wide margin.

There are many players within the JUCO ranks that are as good or better than their counterparts at four year schools, but for their own reasons decided to pursue their dream via attending a 2 year school.
montanadad,
well said, JUCO is no less talented on the field...sometime in the class room...or in the parents pockets it's not there....I would always recommend the same...you've got to find a good fit for you both academically and athletically...I will continue to point out that you need to enjoy your 4 years in college baseball because there is about a 99% chance that it will be your last 4 years...Go where you like the coach, and you can see playing time in your future either way you will have to work you BUTT off for anything at our level!

Walking on at a D1 school is almost unheard of unless it is poor backwater D1. If you have talent and in particular if you are a pitcher go to JUCO. Find one that has a good record of moving players to the next level. In Washington Columbia Basin College has done an excellent job. I believe they have moved more players to D1 in the last few years than any other JUCO. They are always ranked in the top ten nationaly as well. My son pitched there and is now finishing his career at a D1
I always love the opinion of guys that think JUCO is sub D1 standard.
Several JUCO's were high on our list when we were in the hunt.
One guy from Canada LHP went to Chipola and signed a MLB deal worth 7million plus over 4 years. I would call that pretty good. I also think it is not a shoe in that if you go JUCO that you will get all the playing time you can handle. A very good LHP I know personally went to Connor State nad sat. He then transfered to Gulf Costal last year and playede . I see he is back at Connor State this year. This guy is a great talent. He was a ringer they threw against my son's 17U team in a 19U tournament. Our coach recognized him. We allowed him to pitch because there was a question about eligibilty. We beat him in a great game but the talent was obvious. I love watching a kid who can really pitch.
JUCO is a great choice if you do it wisely for all the reasons that have been pointed out on other threads.
