Dad's, I noticed something interesting in the DMN paper today regarding the 4a playoffs. Canyon is playing Lake Dallas in Putnam City, OK. Thats a suburb of OKC. Canyon Randall is playing The Colony at OKC's Bricktown. Who has the advantage? Anyone? Wow, the cost of travel. Just thought it was of interest. One other note in 5a., Midland is traveling to Ft. Worth TCU to play FW Paschal. Did Midland lose the flip?

Last weekend Lake Dallas Softball played a Canyon team in a playoff game near Oklahoma City, so this is not ground breaking news.

There are a few things to consider here.

One, there aren't that many great baseball facilities between the Panhandle and the northwest reaches of the Metroplex.

Two, US 287 must not be a great road to travel. Traveling I-35 and I-40 is a lot easier and convenient.

Three, the main issue, is why the UIL would create a district that has to play its first couple of rounds so far out west. District 3-4A has schools in the Panhandle and District 4-4A mainly consists of schools in Denton County and two from Wichita Falls.

If the UIL is worried about travel cost, then they should consider the cost of having to travel for playoffs. This is not only the case for baseball, but all of the UIL sports for each school in that district.

The next realignment starting this October should be an interesting one. If the UIL is not concerned about travel cost, then Districts that have to spend a lot of money per year on travel costs should have something to say about it! If reducing travel costs can save teaching jobs then it should be a UIL concern.

I agree 100%

A little off subject here but I think the UIL should consider travel from a cost point of view and also from a time point of view. Even if travel is free the time kids get home after a Tuesday night away game should be a concern of the UIL. I also think the UIL thinks they have to get cute and move teams around for no apparent reason. I understand that the way city’s grow and schools grow it has to happen but some cases make no sense at all. This kills rivalries when a school keep moving from one district to another. I think HS rivalries are very important to the passion of the game and should be kept in place where possible. (Sorry for the rant but I feel better now Confused)
If they were really worried about costs they would have left old 6-5A the same with the addition of Denton Guyer and maybe one other.
I mean all the schools were in close proximity, Coppell, SLC, FM, Marcus, LHS, Hebron why drop Coppell, SLC and form 8-5A when all they had to do is add Guyer and one more school ie Colleyville Heritage, then games would have a better rivalry appeal, student/athletes would still have time to get homework done at a recent time.....isn't that the reason why they go to school? Maybe I'm thinking to much.

I know revenue has a lot to due with it but, spending it in Oklahoma is defeating that purpose......and what kind of following is able to travel out-of-state while school is still going on!
Come On!!!!

Choplick left the game in the 7th with bases loaded and no outs. The tying run was on first at the time. LP turned out to be Marshall, who also started and pitched very well in game two.
