Yes this was a game in which both teams were undefeated in district and the winner would take the upper hand going into the final district game this coming friday. Am I putting too much into this? Would all of you taken the bat out of this kids hands and a chance at breaking a record? Just curious. The game finished 10-2 in our favor so it was really over at some point.
I totally understand your frustration. We got a kid who will be drafted and he's got a ton of IBB. We played a game last week where he got 4 in a row and would have gotten a fifth if he got another plate appearance. The other coach made it known our kid wasn't going to beat them. I guess it worked because the guy who hits after him was 3 - 4 and the one at bat he didn't get a hit was a crushed ball the fielder made an error. We beat them by mercy rule so I guess our other 8 hitters were enough.
It's also frustrating the scouts who come to our game to watch him. They have a job to do and they can't do it.
I understand where it's seen as sorta back side compliment to be walked that much but like a scout told us - "Competition, if they don’t want it, why play the game." If the game is on the line in the 6th or 7th innings then I can understand it but in the first inning with nobody on is ridiculous. Let your kids compete because it should be seen as an opportunity to get better. You're telling your kids that they aren't good enough. They're just kids - let them play.
