I was just wondering how people would rate the "5 tools" in order of importance for position players. I know it varies somewhat from position to position but for an overall player. Also are some tools and combinations of tools more rare then others? A lot of talk about pitchers baseline abilities to progress to the next level. Just trying to figure out what position players baseline skillsets need to be.

For obvious reasons it is different for each position, a SS needs to have huge defensive skills and a big arm. A 1B needs to plug the gap and be able to hit the ball out of the park occasionally, having range and a big arm isn't quite as important. 3B don't need the range of a SS but he needs quick reaction's and a gun, he too should rake once in awhile. At 2B it sometimes is what a coach decides what he needs, you can put your value on a average glove with a big bat, or go with a great defensive player that makes all the plays without a big arm or bat.

This is a little weird.  Are you going to clone baseball players?

I am going to have to wait on the cloning until after I see how my son turns out. He did run into some baseball genes though. They must have skipped  generation. I guess it has something to do with how I would rate my son as a player. He has his strengths and weaknesses .I just am trying to grade him out with little knowlege of how to.
