How about Grassfields "Three Headed Monster" this year for a pitching staff. Bounced 1st game of regionals. Like I said you still have to hit to win baseball games. Congrats to First Colonial and Western Branch!

I'm shocked Grassfield didn't do better overall this season.   Good year, but had to be thinking more.  Agree....gotta have SOME offense.  Still a good group of kids and congrats on a good season!!

I understand that Western Branch will play at Cosby Wednesday.  Is First Colonial playing at Forest Park?

Found the answer to my question at the above.  Looks like First Colonial plays at home on Wednesday.

Anyone know how many of Western Branch's starters are back from last years 2014 team?  They were probably the best high school team I've ever seen.  I know they had a bunch of kids moving onto the next level of college or pros last year.  Their catcher was a stud, and I hope he is doing well in the minors.

Lost a lot of talent, but had a ton to lose.   Returned 4 starters from last year along with 2 pitchers that actually saw time last season.   A much younger team this season and not as experienced, but very talented still.   Will be a great game vs Cosby.

How many of these teams will go to the state tournament?  Is it only the top two from the north and south Regions?

Redsdad - correct.  2 from South and 2 from North.  The winners of semis advance.  The Regional Final is used to determine 1 and 2 seeds.   1 seed from South plays 2 seed from North in state semifinals, and same for other side.

Thanks, I was a little confused considering VHSL has four days listed for the Jubilee but only show two days of games.  I am easily confused though.

Same story for them since the school opened.  Lot's of pitching and not enough at the plate.  Also the one and done format makes holes in the offense even more pronounced when the other side brings a ace with them.

I think the discussion over their inability to hit in previous years is justified.  However, this year, not so much.  They had a very solid lineup.  Pitching depth throughout Virginia is insane this season.  And they did just beat Woodside 10-0 to get into the regional, so it's not as though they lack offensive firepower.

Could be.  They did have some wins that they've never had before, but I did think they'd do more in regionals.  It was the best season they've had, I don't think there is much debate about that. 

On another front it looks like Hickory might be warming up to the defense of its title and have been playing better ball as the season has progressed.

Hickory was beating Princess Anne at last report, 10-0.  Mikey Polansky with a grand slam. 

Hickory prevailed 12-0.

Anyone know what the 6a South region is shaping up? what are the matchups?

First Colonial awaiting the winner of Western Branch and Cosby. That contest is slated for 3 p.m. at Cosby depending on weather. The Region final will be played Sunday at 5 p.m. at either Cosby or Western Branch. Anyone have a line on the Cosby WB game?

Are you asking the line of.... if the game will be played today at 3pm?  I live a mile from Cosby and I put the line at 70/30 we'll play.  There is a tarp on the infield.  It stopped drizzling this AM, the forecast looks decent and Jim Cantore is no where to be found.

6-A - Chantilly and Madison are the two coming out of the Northern region. They will play each other today, I think, for the region championship and seeding but both will move on to the 4 team state tournament. In the south region FC is waiting for the winner of Cosby/WB which was delayed by rain. That game will be played tonight at Cosby, the winner of that game gets a home game against FC for the region championship and seeding. That game now looks to be played this Sunday afternoon. Both teams advance to the 4 game state tourney. The state Tournament will be played next Fri and Sat at Robinson High School in Fairfax. South teams will face either Chantilly or Madison.

WB beats Cosby 8-2 to advance to states.
