McLean vs. Western Branch

Cosby vs. Chantilly

For McLean, guessing the ball goes to Joey Sullivan, VT commit. Consistent 90-91, good breaking ball, hits his spots. Fun pitcher to watch.

For Chantilly, guessing Eason Recto will be pitching. Eason will be going to Cornell in the Fall, and has excellent control over a variety of pitches. CHS hitting finally coming together (really started to hit well during the playoffs). Strong up the middle. Soph Jared DiCesare has a few taters over the past few games.

For the Cosby and Western Branch contingent: recommend Fairfax Corner as a place to eat, shop, hang out. www.fairfaxcorner.com. But call ahead to the restaurants before going there.

This doesn't mean that they will win it.  I'm just suggesting that it is doubtful, that McLean has faced another lineup with that much experienced talent.

This will be a great test for Joey Sullivan, a VT commit: D1 v. D1. And it will be fun to watch.

Chantilly beat Cosby 3-2 in front of a very big crowd.   Nice venue for the championships, and the baseball field has to be one of the best in the Commonwealth.  Overall, Chantilly hitters adjusted better than Cosby hitters to what was being pitched IMHO.  Cosby had many chances to score over the course of the  game, but came up short in the first, sixth and seventh innings.  The middle innings Cosby struggled to get base runners.  Williams pitched well enough to win.  JMO.

You've got a #1 6A South vs a #1 6A North seed, so I guess it worked out as the VHSL drew it up. Good luck to both teams.

Prediction:  We played both finalists.  Western Branch impressed me top to bottom with their hitting, team speed, and defense.  They will be your state champion.

Concorde had been pummeling each other all Spring, where there was no team truly dominant and no team playing the role of doormat. Most of the games were very tough and very competitive where players, coaches and fans were never comfortable.

So no surprise to me that yet another team from the Concorde was in the mix for the States.

Of course congrats to WB for their win. And congrats to CHS for their effort and their run in the Regionals and the States.

So the Sr. Group at Western Branch closes out with a win.  I spent 5 years bashing heads against those kids in youth travel ball when they were the Drillers and they were always the team to beat in anything you entered that wasn't a National tournament.

Beyond their obvious talent they have been extremely well coached since they were 6 years old and anyone that sees them play will know it right away.  Congratulations to those young men, they have been the best group of baseball players in Virginia at their age group since they were kids and proved it again.

Congrats to all the players, Coach Wright and his coaches, parents and fans of Western Branch on their State Championship season ! This Lee Butler led core group of players has won at State, Regional and the National level since the age of 8 or 9. This great accomplishment was achieved through many hours of hard work by all the aforementioned and I couldn't be happier for this fine community of folks !!
