My 8th grade son just made the highschool varsity team. Does anyone know if this will affect his eligibility as a senior. Can you play varsity 5 years...

It shouldn't. I know it's not an issue in FL. My son will graduate this year as a 5 year letterman.

DenJake, would be smart to ck with the athletic association governing high school athletics in your homestate (Delaware). In OK, athletes cannot play Varsity, JV, Freshmen or even suit up & play in interschool scrimmages until they have completed the 8th grade.

Delaware - DIAA. I am going to reach put to the schools athletic director to verify.
Yes, check your state's rules. In Wisconsin you can practice with high school teams but not play at any level while in 8th grade.

Definitely double/triple check. A local school was disqualified last year for the exact same thing. They had a player on roster that ended up being a fifth year player. They would have played for the state championship but the whole team was disqualified right before.It got very ugly. They went to court,the AD resigned,etc...The thing is, the parents of the player supposedly did check with the AD and was told that is was allright.Many say they would've have won the championship as they defeated the eventual champs earlier in the season.

I'm with Sugi. Ask the DIAA directly, not the AD, to verify. If DIAA says he can play five years, have them write it down- with your son's name on it.

Thanks, I just missed the link. Very confident after reviewing this and talking to AD that he will be good to go.
